Research was conducted through a literature search.  The results were presented in a form of a seven-session divorced/separated group seminar focusing on: grief and depression, loneliness, guilt and rejection, anger and bitterness, identity and self worth, sexuality, and future goals. It seeks to answer the questions: what is the purpose of an educational program for children? what is the theological foundation undergirding that purpose or purposes? and, what are the purposes, goals, and objectives for a vacation Bible school in general, and specifically as an integral part of the military chapel ministry? Chaplains need to recognize that families are the most crisis-oriented institutions in our society. People are more likely to be experiencing problems and crises in their families than on city streets. In a survey using a Likert scale questionnaire plus a fill-in section, 92 chaplains who retired from the Navy from 1980-1985 were questioned concerning their attitude toward denominational assistance at time of retirement, their experiences in making the transition and their feelings about having served in the military.
