East Ohio Conference","Church and the world","Mission of the church","Methodist Church--Missions"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The project is an evaluation of the understandings of world mission and commitment to it by the East Ohio Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church.  Findings have been analyzed according to various levels of administration which affect a United Methodist's understanding of the church's mission--the General Board of Global Ministries, the Annual Conference, the district, and the local church. Attitudes were compared to mission giving by the East Ohio Conference United Methodists from 1976-1982. A system for planning ministry was developed with twelve lay persons in a suburban Protestant congregation of 1,400 members.  This system included a parish vision and mission statement, a nine step planning guide for program groups and a method for program evaluation. A community service model was developed to help promote student volunteering, blood drives, and mission by the local church.  A pilot study using the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory showed: 1) levels of anxiety decrease following a blood donation, and 2) the number of previous blood donations decreases the levels of anxiety.  An analogy drawn between the blood donor table and the Table of the Lord demonstrated parallels.
