The celebration was a goal-setting project in which the congregation developed a strategy for determining its future mission. The thesis of this project is that the process of developing a mission strategy within the congregation results in a shift of focus by members away from a maintenance orientation and toward a mission orientation. An instrument designed to measure any change of orientation was administered to the congregation. The research of the project uses methods from the Congregational Studies Institute (July 3-13, 1984, Union Seminary, New York) in the areas of identity, context, program and process. It applies them to the author's ministerial setting. The second purpose of this project is to develop an outline of a five-year plan for mission and ministry which the leadership of the author's congregation could use to understand the church's changing socio-cultural environment. The research uncovers a mission orientation in the learned identity, context, program and process of the congregation. This mission orientation is described theologically as Christ's own ministry (through the mission of our congregation) to feed, restore and bring people into community."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Hartford Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["8e52e4c8-38b6-4846-872d-a744b4f5725d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799721566515232768,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T03:23:54.668Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:01:39Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:25:57Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"7fb90558-bc68-4488-80e5-09cb6a243681","accessControl_ssim":["b951fd46-4058-4368-8eec-802d72e2d471"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Jonathan Edwards as missiologist: a legacy for today's church"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:01:39Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:54:10Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["950c4e16-47e7-4738-86f7-2ea3dc470c68"],"hasLease_ssim":["de7d12e2-b092-49a4-9e4f-b21cb0c8f3fb"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["San Francisco Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Norman A Horner"],"year_tesim":["1986"],"location_tesim":["United States"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Jefferson I Ritchie"],"publisher_tesim":["San Francisco Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Edwards, Jonathan, 1703-1758","Missions","Missions--Theory","Mission of the church","Church history"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The thesis of this project is that the American theologian, philosopher, and missionary, Jonathan Edwards, leaves a legacy for mission that continues to this day. An extensive training program for the development of the elders was established covering the areas of being called, history, teaching, flocking, prayer, creative listening, leadership, and gifts and talents. The foundation undergirding this study was learning responsibility and accountability.
