It is the assumption of this study that this development is a problem for the Church of the Brethren, now and in the future, and that it does require attention.Among those caught in the middle of this development are pastors who must declare the position and interpret it. In their office as pastor they must deal directly with the implications of a position that one Brethren writer has characterized as \"rhetorical‚\" in nature (Bach 180). The author of the present study, a pastor, has struggled with those implications and his struggles prompted this project.The aim of this study was to gather information from Church of the Brethren pastors about their experiences as they represent the peace position in their congregations. It was felt that this would be a fruitful window through which to examine the state of the peace position in the Church of the Brethren today.A questionnaire was designed and administered to a random sampling of Brethren pastors active today to solicit that information. Analysis of the findings revealed that most Church of the Brethren congregations are not presently experiencing significant conflict over the issue, but a majority of pastors are uncomfortable with the current status quo in the Church in regard to it. Acts","Mission of the church","Church work","Church development, New","Paul, Saint, Apostle","Theology"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The purpose of the proposed study was to determine how Paul's leadership styles, attitudes and methodology found in his farewell message of Acts 20:17-38 could be utilized to train a group of fifteen Fountain of Life pastors in the discipline of church planting. The training of the 14 pastors took place in Nairobi, Kenya, in September 2002. The group had one year to put the principles learnt into practice. The class met twice after the one-year period to reevaluate the ten principles they had previously learnt. The project proved that it was possible to plant churches using the ten leadership principles gathered from Paul's speech at Miletus. 5 new churches were planted and the other 9 that had existed before this project began grew by 33% to 185%. Organizational change is a process that can be defined by common stages.  By studying organizational change, performing case studies, and drawing on my personal experience, specific stages of transformation for New Testament churches have been defined.  The case studies themselves are limited by criteria, which produce a beginning model.  The end result is defined by scriptural criteria for a New Testament church.  By examining the transformational process of the four case study churches, which have met the criteria, and researching written material on organizational transformation, a multi-stage process specific to churches emerged.  This process was then used as a comparison to my current context as the senior pastor of Northside Baptist Church. This 'nurturing' model of the church is the antithesis of the missional church.  The missional church seeks to be faithful to the 'sent-ness' of the Gospel.  As God sent the Son, so the Son sends his disciples.  Faithfulness requires an outward orientation.  Using the research of David Bosch, Darrell Guder, and others, this project was an attempt to move Trinity Presbyterian Church of Mercer, Pennsylvania from an inward, nurturing perspective to a posture that cares for the wider world. The project invited lay people and clergy, engaged in the praxis of ministry to form a small peer group, to make a covenant as a group, to write theological reflections for shared discussion and group discussion and group reflection, and to move through a process of evaluation of this group experience in light of their ministries and faith lives. One of the assertions of this project is that people of faith and ministry, when engaged in theological reflection with peers realize a transformation of their faith life and in their praxis of ministry. And two, peers whose ministries and faith lives have been transformed by their experiences in peer theological reflection through God's grace will then become vehicles of transformation to the church at large.
