Within our current social climate, it is interesting to consider the effects that digital technology has had on a traditional religion like Catholicism. Indeed, scholars and religious followers collectively acknowledge that digital technology provides great opportunities for the institution and its followers while simultaneously realizing the challenges of being present online. It is argued that today digital communication technologies are not just tools for communication, but a comprehensive, thought-shaping, and culture-making reality of our time. Therefore, this study explores the development of a praxis of digital faith formation for young adults. In this perspective, it examines first, the specific forms of digital religious expressions take in general and in Roman Catholic ministerial praxes in particular, especially in an Indian context. Second, how can Indian Roman Catholic ministers, and the faithful whom they serve, be evangelically and technologically informed, engaged, and responsible users of rapidly evolving digital media? Third, how can ecclesial leaders be effectively persuaded of the importance of being open to new ideas about the use of digital media for the formation of youth as well as a myriad of other possible ministerial applications? While exploring these questions in an Indian context, this thesis analyzes a set of specific phenomena related to both the existent and potential interplay of ministry and digital technology. This thesis takes a modest but important step toward developing digital faith formation for young adults. The main research question is, ‘What are best practices for a missional approach to discipleship for the local church?’ Two additional questions are used to answer the main research question: (1) What are some of the major challenges these local churches encountered in their discipleship efforts? and (2) What lessons can be learned from the experience of these congregations when formulating a missional disciple-making strategy?To explore and answer the research question, a multiple case study methodology is employed. This method examines three evangelical churches in the Chicago area who embody a missional discipleship, using three different types of data collection. These include two focus groups at each church involving semi- structured qualitative interviews with small group leaders and participants, six participant observations of events these churches carried out for people in their communities, and a collection of documentary evidence.The data from this study was organized into findings and concluded with three emphases that can be implemented by churches in their discipleship practices. To help address these concerns, a leadership retreat was designed and implemented that used Appreciative Inquiry (AI) as a process to help the leadership team develop a clear vision for outreach to the community of Oakville. There were seven leaders who participated, and the outcomes of the retreat were analyzed. The project was aimed at facilitating the development of leadership team vision for the residents living in this community. Using AI processes, the leadership team looked at the vision for the Oakville community, developed a vision statement and committed to designing ways to serve the community needs. Colossians","Kingdom of God"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Through the ministry of the author in Mexico, over two thousand church planters were trained to start over one thousand new churches through the ministry of Resonate Global Mission in partnership with Multiplication Network and several denominations from 2010-2020. When these church planters were developed through the Multiplication Network’s recommended training program, the author desired to know to what extent can the new churches that were planted could be characterized as healthy congregations, kingdom communities, and reproducing organisms?The author decided to study churches that had matured for approximately four years in order to answer this question. Starting with the total population of church planters who were trained and started new churches in 2016-2017, the author chose a random sample of them. He then surveyed and interviewed not only a percentage of those church planters, but also members of their four-year-old churches.Factors were uncovered that often stood in the way of church realizing their full potential as healthy congregations, kingdom communities, and reproducing organisms, such as: antagonistic cultural forces in wider society and in the hearts of believers, navigating expectations with mother churches, getting derailed by daily pressures, and weak commitment. To test this hypothesis, the author taught a non-partisan ten-week sermon series on religion and politics and led an accompanying class discussion. Research study participants completed a pre-and-post survey to gauge effectiveness. The author concluded that all participants developed more of a theological framework for engaging in politics, some more than others. For many, the commitment to study the ancient text persists in being an elusive pursuit. The hinderance can be described as biblical nescience. Although numerous Christians adhere to religious doctrine, church ordinances, and corporate engagements such as regular Sunday worship, Christian instruction, communion, Bible study, prayer, ministry service, and giving, largely excluded from the framework of faith is Bible reading. Some Christians acknowledge the major obstacle to be a lack of understanding of the storyline. Another challenge for readers is finding relevancy in the text, while others hold to the notion that comprehensive Bible reading and study are the sole responsibility of the pastor and church leaders to guide Christians beyond these complexities and aid future believers to embrace the Living Word.
