Issues addressed in the project include: 1) whether members of the local congregation have a clear understanding of the relationship between the sacrament of Holy Communion and the mission of the church, 2) whether a more complete knowledge and understanding of Holy Communion has an impact upon their perception of the church's mission, and 3) whether the way in which Holy Communion is practiced influences the way in which they attempt to fulfill the mission of the church. This project focuses on the implementation of missional principles in a particular congregation to shift its narrative of decline to a narrative of revitalization. The report explores Second Presbyterian Church's historical identity leading to its period of decline, identifies missional principles, and then traces the narrative of the implementation of those principles within the congregation.
