The '40 days of purpose' is a church-based campaign that was created at the Saddleback Community Church in Lake Forest, California, where Rick Warren is the senior pastor, and is designed to address five elements of church health: evangelism, worship, fellowship, discipleship and service. This project will review Saddleback's understanding of these areas of church health as well as the way they are presented in the '40 days of purpose' and present an alternative understanding and presentation, as well as the addition of prayer as a key element of church health. As specifically stated in the title, this project contends for the centrality of expository preaching and as such, it presents both the philosophical foundation and the homiletical process of expository preaching. Specific illustrations are given on how to preach expository sermons from New Testament Epistles and Old Testament narrative, with suggestions on how to make exposition relevant to congregations of the twenty-first century. There is also a detailed proposal on how a church might follow the sermon with discussion based on time-tested educational theory."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Trinity Evangelical Divinity School"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["c654e922-76d0-4427-ac29-e286b7997781"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799717852779905024,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:24:52.974Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T09:55:13Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:14:35Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"e5ee37c2-e4c3-4a76-b557-a1139c6c45ab","accessControl_ssim":["e7f60b10-0b5d-4c25-972e-5412eb7c1f2b"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Imparting vision to a congregation through proclamation"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T09:55:11Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:42:26Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["0bbc75da-83be-43c5-9363-dd940999d6ca"],"hasLease_ssim":["53418555-9d53-4c64-8af4-edf1cfbb8d6d"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Al Fasol"],"year_tesim":["2005"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Timothy T Deatrick"],"publisher_tesim":["Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Northwest Arkansas Family Church (Bentonville, Ark)","Mission of the church","Preaching"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Vision is the future destination of the church that God reveals to His people. It is the answer to the question, 'Where are we headed as a church?' The purpose of this Doctor of Ministry project is to learn and apply the skills necessary to impart vision to the church through proclamation. The setting for this thirteen-week project will be Northwest Arkansas Family Church in Bentonville, Arkansas, where the project leader serves as founding pastor. During this time, the project leader will conduct an assessment of the congregation's understanding of the church's mission and purpose. This assessment will be followed by a series of sermons that outline the purpose, mission, and direction of the church. A corresponding small group Bible study curriculum will be developed which will allow members to dialogue regarding that particular week's sermon. An evaluation will be conducted at the completion of the project to ascertain the congregation's comprehension and application of the church's mission and purpose."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["b2ad2862-737d-4dde-8145-b9b6962ac5f3"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791133146017693696,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:14:38.621Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T09:43:07Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:26:39Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"13046369-6de7-4c02-b015-6f951acc635b","accessControl_ssim":["eb84412e-ba0c-4b10-9fa7-03d07ad4da7e"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Developing church-planting leaders for the Fountain of Life churches based upon the principles derived from Paul's speech at Miletus in Acts 20:17-38"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T09:43:06Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:40:30Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["d689e728-d6fb-42d0-ba76-8d29a16cc6c6"],"hasLease_ssim":["011e8fa4-81e9-4b82-952c-ba09b2e244e4"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Asbury Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Leslie A Andrews"],"year_tesim":["2004"],"location_tesim":["Kenya--Nairobi"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Armstrong K Cheggeh"],"publisher_tesim":["Asbury Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Bible. The training of the 14 pastors took place in Nairobi, Kenya, in September 2002. The group had one year to put the principles learnt into practice. The class met twice after the one-year period to reevaluate the ten principles they had previously learnt. The project proved that it was possible to plant churches using the ten leadership principles gathered from Paul's speech at Miletus. 5 new churches were planted and the other 9 that had existed before this project began grew by 33% to 185%. The prayer life of the pastors, the giving in the churches and the small groups ministries improved."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Asbury Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["6c1e11e8-b66e-47b6-8fe9-6c546c20935c"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791133905665916928,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:26:43.078Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T09:36:38Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:50:55Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"a5691314-a942-4200-81b0-3382944d5dfa","accessControl_ssim":["46c24bc6-b370-4ce2-8fde-92bbe6666a71"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Transitioning tradition, declining churches into relevant, influential, New Testament bodies of believers"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T09:36:37Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:56:00Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["83eefb50-3e60-4df4-85d5-d3bffb971690"],"hasLease_ssim":["a884938b-32d3-4563-b5a5-b3416256a255"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Trinity Evangelical Divinity School"],"advisor_tesim":["David L Larsen"],"year_tesim":["2004"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Donald S Boggs"],"publisher_tesim":["Trinity Evangelical Divinity School of Trinity International University"],"subject_tesim":["Mission of the church","Organizational change"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Traditional, declining churches are organizations that can be transformed into relevant, influential bodies of believers. Organizational change is a process that can be defined by common stages. By studying organizational change, performing case studies, and drawing on my personal experience, specific stages of transformation for New Testament churches have been defined. The case studies themselves are limited by criteria, which produce a beginning model. The end result is defined by scriptural criteria for a New Testament church. By examining the transformational process of the four case study churches, which have met the criteria, and researching written material on organizational transformation, a multi-stage process specific to churches emerged. This process was then used as a comparison to my current context as the senior pastor of Northside Baptist Church.
