The project invited lay people and clergy, engaged in the praxis of ministry to form a small peer group, to make a covenant as a group, to write theological reflections for shared discussion and group discussion and group reflection, and to move through a process of evaluation of this group experience in light of their ministries and faith lives. One of the assertions of this project is that people of faith and ministry, when engaged in theological reflection with peers realize a transformation of their faith life and in their praxis of ministry. And two, peers whose ministries and faith lives have been transformed by their experiences in peer theological reflection through God's grace will then become vehicles of transformation to the church at large. The overall framework of this project is reflected in what Eldin Villafañe refers to as 'the hermeneutical circle of social ethics.' This paradigm involves three steps, which have each been undertaken from a systemic point of view. The three steps ask three basic questions: Clarification--What is going on? Conceptualization--What does the Bible and other pertinent disciplines say? Confrontation --How do we respond? The first step involves doing careful social analysis to gain a contextual and comprehensive picture on the issue (Introduction and Chapter One). The second step involves biblical and theological reflection; what Douglas Hall calls 'doing systemic theology.' This step also involves doing systems reflection and consulting other pertinent sources (Chapters Two-Four). The third step involves developing clear strategies--consistent with a systems view of reality--that flow out of a confluence of the first two steps (Chapter Five). A primary premise of this work is that Euro-American churches have largely 'missed' the dynamic vitality of Diaspora ministry and mission due to deficient 'mental models.' These deficient mental models, it is argued, arise form some specific sociological and theological oversights that are often present in Euro-American church systems. The primary aim of this study is to see these deficient mental models informed and transformed in a way consistent with Albert Nolan's passionate statement about the role of Christian social analysis--'to clear away the lies, the blindness, the confusion and propaganda, so that faith can discern the movement of the Spirit.'"],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791132919084875776,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:11:02.200Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T08:58:34Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:02:57Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"7ad68b5d-c0c1-40ca-bf77-0e832dce2692","accessControl_ssim":["c6acff75-04ef-4ab0-8f8f-847fd837a53e"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Eucharist in exile: sacramental celebration for the sake of the world"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T08:58:33Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:45:12Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["2c1fc49c-9c51-468c-9c4a-e05f5ffd7f05"],"hasLease_ssim":["e74ac5b2-e744-43c9-b911-06874e58a6f3"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Catherine Gunsalus González"],"year_tesim":["2004"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["William O Gafkjen"],"publisher_tesim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Mission of the church","Lord's Supper"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The movement of mainline churches toward the margins of cultural and societal influence has created a missional situation for the North American church. The project results demonstrate a new enthusiasm for the participants in their understanding of the purpose of the Church in the mission of God and their own role in its ministry."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["b5eba5c2-141b-4673-9689-2f9720736859"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791129060765597696,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:09:42.621Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T07:38:19Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:09:35Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"abd32873-7571-46c5-bf80-1c13be95563e","accessControl_ssim":["3e871ec6-5d1c-4361-863a-ef8a14504fbd"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["When two or three gather in my name: the new science, an ancient practice, and the (re)discovery of missional imagination and practice within a congregation plunged into conflict and chaos"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T07:38:19Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:05:36Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["e247cbc2-c46a-47ab-a2bc-6c6a22c2387e"],"hasLease_ssim":["e15bfc17-17e8-495b-9cc8-0e328734e30d"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Darrell L Guder"],"year_tesim":["2003"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Chris William Erdman"],"publisher_tesim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Mission of the church","Missions--Theory"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Modern churches reduced ordinary disciples to passive receivers of the will of God as discerned by clergy who often functioned like corporate CEOs. The leadership team studied Matthew 28:19-20 and devised a Great Commission Purpose Statement, and then studied New Testament functions of the church and developed a Church Mission Statement to carry out the Great Commission Statement. Through a study of biblical priorities, it became apparent that the church was imbalanced particularly in the areas of evangelism and discipleship training for ministry, so two key programs were begun in these areas. Finally, through examining principles of church governance, a congregational-elders form of government was devised to wed church structure to the new mission statement so as to carry it out in actual ministry."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Trinity Evangelical Divinity School"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["c654e922-76d0-4427-ac29-e286b7997781"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799717608300216320,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:20:59.820Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":227,"label":"Unknown"},{"value":"D.Min.
