Churches are called to be interdependent, self-propagating, outward-focused communities of Kingdom people comprised at their core of reaidcl disciples covenanted to the Triune God and to each other, who are missional, incarnational and transformational to the surrounding culture. As a result the congregation's ministries have not been aligned with any explicit overarching vision. Ministries were sometimes not sure how their particular activities aligned with the larger purposes of the church. A process was needed to bring the congregation's leadership together to start thinking strategically and plan the future ministries of the church around a shared vision. A strategic planning team led the process by conducting congregational surveys, meeting regularly to pray, studying survey results and writing new mission and vision statements. The outcomes of this project include new mission and vision statements, a willingness to align the ministries accordingly, and a more forward looking, visionary leadership. From Romans 12:2 the thesis looks at how the church has embraced the patterns of the world and how the process moves them from those patterns towards Christ and his Kingdom values. Two (Action Research) churches went through the Looking process and developed next steps to begin participating with God in mission. Luke","Mission of the church","House churches","Church development, New"],"language_tesim":["English"],"alternative_title_tesim":["The end of the world as we know it: alternative models of church for the twenty-first century"],"abstract_tesim":["In the light of changing Canadian culture, decreasing church attendance, inherent shortcomings of institutionalized attractional models of church, and the challenges of planting conventional, building-based churches in the postmodern context, this thesis project delineates criteria for developing effective missional models of church for the 21st century. To furnish a biblical foundation, the project follows the movement of the first century church from the temple to the house described in the Lukan narrative. Twelve elements of apostolic mission from Luke 10-11 are incorporated into a church-planting model that connects with the households of our day - pre-existing relational networks of people meeting in third places. This biblical model reproduces organically, without depending on a church building, hierarchical structures or paid clergy. It presumes a profound reorientation of ecclesiology around the missio Dei so that mission shapes structure. In order to accomplish this task, the author interviewed German field officers. Three concerns were expressed. First, current ministry priorities are unsatisfying for the majority of officers. Second, the officers long to invest more of their time in spiritual formation. Third, the officers perceive that the THQs priorities inadequately relate to their own desires for ministry. This study gives three recommendations to the Salvation Army: First, clear ministry valance. Second, maintaining relationships with officers. The author explored the implications of missional ecclesiology for leadership and the connection between leadership and imagination.  The author formed and led a six-month group for lay leadership development in which participants considered claims of missional ecclesiology vis-a-vis the congregation's context. The theological rationale focuses on the nature of the church as old and new and the congregation as a complex family system. The literature review focuses on congregational culture, a survey of the transitional leaders' attributes and actions, and an understanding of the learning organization.  A comparison of one congregation's historic vs. current leadership culture, by means of group interviews and surveys, was conducted so as to understand the trajectory of its leadership culture. The Missional Change Model (MCM), developed by Alan Roxburgh and Fred Romanuk (2006), was used as a guide to that process. The MCM is designed to assist a congregation in implementing change. To determine missional readiness at Victoria United, congregational 360 and pastor/leader 360 assessments were completed. The implementation of the MCM occurred over an eight month period.
