This is being undertaken to produce greater effectiveness in the preparation and training of new candidates. The agency's candidates are Christian professionals who are placed in very difficult fields. Increasing the effectiveness of pre-field selection and training will help insure long-term presence in these fields. An overview of biblical themes and a literature review found that there are many areas to identify and assess. The use of two survey instruments was employed to gather data from field leaders and workers. The study employed qualitative and quantitative methods via surveys and interviews of missionaries, church leaders, and lay members within the EMC. The study determined that there has been a decline with multiple mitigating factors. They were surveyed to determine how the trips influenced them. The research demonstrates that students who had already considered career missionary service found additional encouragement to pursue mission ministry. The thesis begins with an analysis of the need for new missionaries in the C\u0026MA while also showing how the denomination has addressed the issue. The second and third chapters provide a biblical-theological framework of missions and missionary recruitment along with a broad understanding of millennials and their postmodern context. Finally, a strategy for recruiting missionaries from among the millennials in the US Christian \u0026 Missionary Alliance is offered, providing helpful suggestions for local congregations to implement, as well as steps of action for the C\u0026MA to take at the national and district levels. The project interviews in depth 13 persons whose effectiveness in cross-cultural mission is widely recognized, interpeting their stories in patterns and metaphors in order to identify, equip, and place students with potential for mission in cross-cultural contexts. Goal achievement by the program and the supervisor was measured by instruments completed by the assistants.  The project was a success because the assistants accomplished more than any former group, and returned to their fields of service with a sense of
