The purpose was to confirm spiritual life factors enabling this population to thrive in their lives and ministry. In this concurrent mixed-methods study, 227 participants completed quantitative survey items and 32 participants responded to a qualitative interview schedule.  Spiritual vitality, evidenced through qualitative findings, was summarized as an outcome of a personal relationship with the triune God that is evident through the Christ-like qualities of a missionary who is resilient in the face of hardship. In this dissertation the author surveyed and interviewed missionaries to determine what spiritual disciplines most helped them stay effective in their ministry. The results of this research point out certain spiritual disciplines which missionaries use to remain spiritually healthy-prayer, engaging Scripture, worship, fellowship, and service.  Other disciplines were done to a lesser extent.  There was also recognition by the missionaries that workload, busyness, one's environment, and cross-cultural living impacted the effective practice of those disciplines. The purpose concerned understanding the state of spiritual formation practices among the missionaries as well as discerning the measure of influence they exert on the three aforementioned dimensions of missionary life. The project utilized the Spiritual Well Being Scale developed by Ellison and Paloutzian and a researcher-designed instrument to gather the information for statistical analysis and correlations. The results indicated that the practice of regular spiritual disciplines definitely influence spiritual well-being within the population of missionaries of Greater Europe Mission. However, with regard to perceived ministry effectiveness and retention, the results were mixed and only a weak relationship was indicated, which was insufficient to meet the criteria of this study for a valid correlation. The top 3 'preventable' causes identified were: interpersonal problems with peers (other missionaries/colleagues); inner personal problems; and immature spiritual life. The focus of this thesis project is to show how the Great Commandment directly addresses the issues raised by the ReMAP 1 survey. The project delineates how the Great Commandment passages provide a spirituality that guides a missionary in their spiritual formation process. The Great Commandment provides 'cardinal points' like those of a compass that serves to orient a missionary in the midst of the challenges he or she faces. The primary research question was, 'What are the major components that contribute to member care with One Mission Society? The study used the quantitative research method. An electronic survey was given to 115 One Mission Society field-based missionaries--78 responses were received and recorded. The survey questions were developed from the precedent research. These environments hold hardships which can cause physical, psychological, spiritual, and/or ministry stresses. Mission agencies need to provide more effective pastoral care to mitigate early attrition from high-risk fields.  Qualitative methodology was used to study the expectations, stressors, coping attitudes and behaviors, and member care services received by workers. The joy and fruit of ministry far outweighed the costs and risks of service for these servants. They are coping, surviving, and thriving through the care of God the Father, through self-care, and through their organizations' member care
