Dedicated missionary training communities utilize informal education to achieve these desired outcomes.  This project identified the predominant character qualities and attitudes found in various bodies of literature on missionary competency profiling.  Further, it demonstrates that informal and nonformal education are the most suitable methods for effective character and attitude formation in pre-field missionaries.  A correlation was presented based on the New Testament writings, demonstrating that Jesus Christ targeted character qualities and attitudes, and addressed these by using informal educational methods, and established an intentional community as the basis of addressing these training needs. The author evaluated the development of these traits in seven Brazilian seminarians during a four-week missions internship in Paraguay.  Self-reporting, participant observation, national informant observations, and pre- and post-internship testing involving the Intercultural Competency Scale were used for evaluation. Two control groups were also utilized.  Few students evidenced growth in intercultural sensitivity.  The internship apparently deflated the cultural expectations of others.  Considerable growth was noted in adventuresomeness, though not verbal boldness. The New Testament provides not only some principles for establishing and maintaining healthy churches and structures for the missionary work, but it also offers models for collective leadership, empowering leadership and culturally sensitive leadership.  At the same time balance could be maintained between the Spirit's leadership and the structures.  The author uses the evaluative method. His aim is to identify the factors which are crucial in creating a balance between the Spirit's leadership, and the structures necessary for healthy churches and missions.  He applies also phenomenological method.  As a conclusion the author asserts that mission organizations and national churches should be more concerned with structures that can affirm and support the unity of different local churches. Lack of such structures brings independent and isolated local congregations that can only contribute to world missions in a limited way.  Churches must find a balance between visionary leaders and assisting managers.  The main purpose of leadership is to empower people to build up the body of Christ.  Because mission work is now understood as being from everywhere to everywhere, culturally intelligent coaching is needed.  New sending countries are especially in need of relevant structures, but at the same time, old mission countries have become stagnated without having an attitude of life-long learning. I want to share salvation of Jesus to those who live in the northwest of China.  The reasons of my focus on the northwest of China are as follows.  First of all, the northwest is the poorest area in China.  Secondly, the people's lives of this area are in a spiritual meaninglessness and seem to be much influenced by Islam.  I expect that Christians can build a Bible training center there as soon as possible.  Hopefully, hundreds, even thousands, of trainees may be molded as missionaries from this center and they can share Jesus' love and grace to others.  This thesis is divided into five chapters. Chapter one is the introduction.  Chapter two emphasizes the strategy of Jesus Christ's ministry in the area of Palestine. Chapter three introduces the northwest region of China including descriptions of geography, resources, populations, and religious condition.  Chapter four presents the evangelism strategy for the northwest area of China. With the rapid growth of Christianity in India there are no other alternatives but to equip the lay people for the work. Second, this project will suggest methods for church-based training programs for lay church planters. This study consists of understanding the purpose of a local church and also demonstrates a biblical foundation for church-based training for lay church planters. This study will also define the role of the pioneer workers as trainer. The authors also suggest methods on how to organize training program, including courses and subjects, which need to be taught. The destiny of India lies in the hands of lay people. Methods of research included case study, reflection and exegesis, and involved attention in the areas of genogramic analysis, ethics, and ecclesiastical models. The project resulted in a new strategic plan, a training manual for mission workers, the establishment of an endowment fund, and a draft personnel policy manual. The goal is to provide church-based training in the area of cross-cultural adjustment for prospective Austrian missionaries.  The backbone of the couse is a bi-weekly meeting with a foreigner living in Austria, with whom the students are to meet in order to discuss matters dealt with in the course.
