When these church planters were developed through the Multiplication Network’s recommended training program, the author desired to know to what extent can the new churches that were planted could be characterized as healthy congregations, kingdom communities, and reproducing organisms? The author decided to study churches that had matured for approximately four years in order to answer this question. Starting with the total population of church planters who were trained and started new churches in 2016-2017, the author chose a random sample of them. He then surveyed and interviewed not only a percentage of those church planters, but also members of their four-year-old churches.Factors were uncovered that often stood in the way of church realizing their full potential as healthy congregations, kingdom communities, and reproducing organisms, such as: antagonistic cultural forces in wider society and in the hearts of believers, navigating expectations with mother churches, getting derailed by daily pressures, and weak commitment. On the other hand, key beliefs, attitudes, and practices were unearthed that enabled some churches to become healthy congregations, kingdom communities, and—to a lesser extent—reproducing organisms, such as: seeing the local church as a family of faith, centering the life of the church on the Bible, praying for kingdom growth, desiring that non-believers receive salvation, serving sacrificially, and developing leadership potential in others."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Trinity Evangelical Divinity School"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["c654e922-76d0-4427-ac29-e286b7997781"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799717108416774144,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:13:03.094Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:58:40Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:19:07Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"1f958eb2-d68c-4aa8-bb6c-cc17cb1b839f","accessControl_ssim":["a7e2b371-bf39-4ff0-b4aa-5c54b778fe62"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["A Contextualized Approach to Leadership Training in Jesus City Mission, Cameroon"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:58:40Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:04:23Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["dc2354a5-bf0d-4c29-8f9a-ed996798d863"],"hasLease_ssim":["82073de5-d194-4e96-8528-c62e17272b9f"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"discipline_tesim":["Leadership"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Tyndale University"],"advisor_tesim":["Michael Krause Dr D.Min."],"year_tesim":["2022"],"location_tesim":["Cameroon","Africa","Canada"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. The need for an indigenous approach to leadership training contextualized to the Cameroonian African context, in contrast to the current adopted Western model was identified. This project developed a model for leadership training to prepare ministers for service in the rapidly growing JCM church. To reach this understanding, a participatory action research process incorporating qualitative data-collecting instruments was employed, interviewing and surveying of Ministerial Academic (MINACA) students and JCM stakeholders. A focus group of 8 participants was constituted, 10 MINACA former students and 25 current students were interviewed. Sixty questionnaires were administered to participants. We discovered that trainers must not only be qualified but must be conversant with the sociocultural realities of where training is taking place. Leadership training must be hands on. This information provided a foundation for the future development of various training processes in JCM and other Christian denominations facing similar challenges."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Tyndale University"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["602e7e7c-0b8b-4e09-af87-84c66ff49c48"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791133431719002112,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:19:11.086Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T18:59:23Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:31:07Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"ecd78b87-bdd0-44ad-a58c-11162aedd27c","accessControl_ssim":["fbf18d6d-d182-4450-bc57-65ba2c6dce6d"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Characteristics of Diaspora Christian Forestier Who Successfully Evangelize People from the Upper Guinea Host Cultures."],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T18:59:20Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:53:55Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["00a42018-1f3c-4f76-96eb-4e500077e034"],"hasLease_ssim":["7d677e17-c59f-488c-aa01-db2ae25e8cf2"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"discipline_tesim":["Church and Parachurch Executive Leadership"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Denver Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Scott Klingsmith Ph.D."],"year_tesim":["2020"],"location_tesim":["Guinea","Africa"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. The evangelists were part of a diaspora minority in Upper Guinea, where missions first arrived in 1919 but still shows few results. The potential evangelistic impact of the local Church, as the population of western missionaries diminishes, motivated research into what characteristics describe those diaspora believers who are successful at evangelizing their Muslim host populations. Interviews provided data to compare those who had successfully evangelized Muslims versus those who had only successfully evangelized non-Muslims. The results of the research point to four primary differentiators between the two groups became evident: a dedication to deep prayer, commitment to Bible study, trust in God refined through persecution, and participation in new Christian works. Additionally, some secondary characteristics were identified, including reading the Bible in multiple languages, an emphasis on external community, and evangelization of others as a means of spiritual growth. Lastly, some non-differentiating characteristics were identified: answered prayer, significant friendships across cultural and ethnic boundaries, and the sharing of learning. In other words, read your Bible and pray every day makes a difference.Chapter 2 of the thesis explores God’s demonstrated desire for all nations to be saved, God’s use of diaspora God-fearers, and evangelism as an expected endeavor for the whole church. The chapter 3 literature review explores diaspora realities, including the reality of few scholarly resources coming out of French West Africa and nuances of diaspora in North America and Europe, with a preference to what has been reported by Africans. There was also a look at multicultural churches and one ethnic group evangelizing another, all within a West African, Islamic context. Not to be missed is the author’s contrarian view on heart-languages in urban, multi-cultural, West African churches."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Denver Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["e7af129f-938f-4821-9463-dc6ded35d563"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791134185919873024,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:31:10.349Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T18:34:50Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:06:27Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"72da62c0-23bc-4975-8c42-f2d5a66fe5d8","accessControl_ssim":["bdc6b040-bb81-49fd-8bb3-38614febf38c"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Pre-Field Orientation And Training Of Fgm Missionaries"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T18:34:49Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:29:32Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["430e5d2e-ad02-4a5e-b4a4-69c283fd33ad"],"hasLease_ssim":["e9b71113-765f-4aad-b613-4baf8d1850ca"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"discipline_tesim":["Missions and evangelism"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Trinity Evangelical Divinity School"],"advisor_tesim":["Craig Ott Ph.D.","David Siever Ph.D.","William Donahue Ph.D."],"year_tesim":["2016"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. Until the twentieth century, the impact of cross-cultural factors on the effectiveness and efficiency of international workers was not a serious consideration in the English-speaking world.Mission agency training remained somewhat static until end of the twentieth century when several studies reported on missionary attrition factors and multi-national entities began to evaluate their losses due to cross-cultural issues. ReMAP and ReMAPII collated much data on missionary attrition, identifying several factors as preventable. Several of these factors pointed back to potential weaknesses in preparation and screening missionary candidates for cross-cultural work.In response to this problem, this study presents the need for missionary Pre-Field Orientation and Training (PFOT) and lays a foundation that includes biblical, theological, historical, and practical reasons. The research includes ancient and current literature as well as case studies of the Pre-Field Orientation and Training programs of three major evangelical mission agencies. The study produced a PFOT plan for Faith Global Missions that utilizes current technology and educational methods. The work includes the process of plan development, evaluative input from missionary trainers and training experts, PFOT subjects, and pedagogy that may be useful to Faith Global Missions and other missionary training organizations."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Trinity Evangelical Divinity School"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["c654e922-76d0-4427-ac29-e286b7997781"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799716694293217280,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:06:28.155Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T17:15:08Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:53:17Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"31be6ea8-e688-4a1c-a57c-fe3f4ec18bce","accessControl_ssim":["28452c52-3a35-4136-8dba-27f7e47fb17b"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Preparing mission volunteers in order to maximize a church planting partnership in the United Kingdom"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T17:15:06Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:34:49Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["9b1098ff-49ac-4847-b13b-f9c3caf9bca3"],"hasLease_ssim":["5e73714a-e32e-4043-b01f-0988f02c5fdf"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Thomas H Kiker"],"year_tesim":["2016"],"location_tesim":["Great Britain"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Sammey D Lindsey"],"publisher_tesim":["Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Missionaries--Training of","Missions","Church development, New"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The purpose of this research project is to develop training material for instructors and sessions that equip Mobberly Baptist Church mission team members for ministry with the Heritage Church planters of Preston, England. A number of historical and contemporary cases demonstrate that relational networks exist and have provided the bridge for transnational movement for secular and missional purposes."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Western Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["910240dd-6bfb-49cb-ab06-1b8de036aac8"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791132656569679872,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:06:51.847Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T17:04:27Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T01:41:21Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"2c89e434-3d60-44dc-b416-425fe45c6ae1","accessControl_ssim":["bc8a652f-c323-4913-9e17-c5be33278f89"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Developing and Implementing Biblically-Sound and Missiologically-Informed Training for Young Adult Short-Term Missions for the Seventh-Day Adventist Church"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T17:04:25Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:25:45Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["d65c0f03-4c6f-4230-8f10-00098f51a671"],"hasLease_ssim":["83657515-fecb-4226-a957-7a5a42f67173"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Trinity Evangelical Divinity School"],"advisor_tesim":["Robert J Priest"],"year_tesim":["2013"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Glenn E Russell"],"publisher_tesim":["Trinity Evangelical Divinity School"],"subject_tesim":["Missionaries--Training of","Seventh-Day Adventists--Missions","Church work with youth--Seventh-Day Adventists"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This project centered around the examination and exploration of the biblical and missiological foundations for short-term missions. The first principle is that STM trip leaders must be well-equipped to train and lead their teams, and thus they will have a greater impact than their counterparts: untrained STM team leaders. The second principle is that once trained, STM trip leaders will know what to do purposely in order for them to have successful STM trips under all circumstances. The third principle is that once trained, STM trip leaders will strategically have systems in place to avoid or deal with pitfalls that tend to diminish the spiritual impact and the quality of STM trip experiences. The fourth principle is that once trained, STM trip leaders who are well equipped to train and lead their teams, become excep tionally indispensable catalysts to foster future long-term missionaries because of the quality of their previous STM trip experiences. The purpose of these case studies is to discover best practices and proven training resource materials to equip STM trip leaders and participants to have greater effectiveness and thus successful ministry in their STM trip endeavors by surveying three distinct ministries. In this project, STM trips will be defined by not only the length or duration of a specific mission trip, but also in terms of the specific ministry focus during the time frame which helps to determine its quality and effectiveness. Churches and para-church organizations will have a greater impact in their STM trips when the leaders of the teams and their participants are well trained for every assignment that encompasses their STM trips. The case study method was chosen. That allows an outside researcher flexibility to enter the context of interest, establish rapport, and to observe pertinent details and probe with formal and informal questions that will lead to deeper clarification and understanding in virtually every area of their inquiries. It also allows the researcher to administer data collection gathered from written materials as well as one-on-one interviews, in order to compare and contrast the findings. This project showed that STM trip leaders who are well equipped to train and lead their teams to have a greater impact than their counterpart, untrained STM team leaders. Also, after training STM trip leaders, they then know what to do in order to have successful STM trips under all circumstances. This research project showed there are churches and para-church ministry organizations with best training resource materials qualified to develop effective STM leaders and participants. When comparing the r esults of the three subjects in this research project, it is refreshing to discover the similarities in strong biblical convictions among them and the passionate commitment that fuels the fibers of their training resource materials to produce the kind of disciples that will glorify God on the mission field and at home."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["8322f611-a593-413a-8bcd-0011fba52dc7"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791129959033470976,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:23:59.276Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":83,"label":"Unknown"},{"value":"D.Min.
