The author created a curriculum for mothers exploring their faith. Participants received monthly, theme-based materials from scripture, the Episcopal Book of Common Prayer, a quotation from a modern source, an activity, a recommended film and reflection questions. After independently engaging these offerings, they gathered in discussion groups to further explore the material. Participants completed a full one-day retreat which included lectures, participative exercises, spiritual disciplines such as formational prayer, and Lectio Divina. Pre and post tests were given to measure the results. The results of the data revealed increased movement in the participants' self-esteem. Further positive measurement evidenced a desire for Christian fellowship and a deeper relationship with God. The project explores roles and expectations of motherhood as well as examining definitions of family.  It details the dilemmas for a mother who tries to parent when not physically present in her household; the dilemmas that she faces in confronting attitudes of judgment and prejudice; the dilemmas presented by feelings of guilt, rejection, and abandonment. Included is the study of thirty-one women from a suburban Roman Catholic church, the subsequent presentation of findings on a matrix, and four case studies of women who showed a predominance in one of the phases of individuation, i.e., symbiosis, practicing, individuation, or distancing. The results support the hypothesis that the relationship of middle age women to their mothers bears similarities to their separation-individuation process in their early years of
