The behavioral change targeted in this thesis was measured by two questionnaires distributed after two 'Friendship Sunday' worship services to which members of the local congregation had been encouraged to invite their 'seeker' friends.  The only difference between the first Sunday and the second was the treatment, the (ten) sermons.  The measure of success was a 10 percent increase in the number of church members who invited a 'seeker.'  By that measure the project failed. Contemporary models consisted of Lyle Schaller, Robert Dale and Kennon Callahan. Certain motivational methods of each person are examined and discussed in capsule form. Chapter 4 presents the project preparation and implementation.  The preparation section presents project approval and data collection.  The implementation section presents a capsule form of the sessions.  Chapter 5 evaluates the project's data collected from interviews, questionnaires and participant evaluation. One cause is a lack of proper focus on the doctrine of heaven.  Using before and after testing of a class taught using a nine-lesson curriculum based on a lay-oriented book on this doctrine, the study concludes that this book and curriculum were effective in positively influencing the understanding of and attitude toward heaven in the test group.  Such an improvement led to better motivation toward personal godliness and witness in almost all students. The author researched motivational principles in psychology, education, the Bible, and the writings of Ellen G. White.  He taught these principles in a six-hour seminar, had participants deliver sermons using seminar principles, and evaluated the effectiveness of the principles.  Research suggested that addressing personal needs enhances motivation.  Three principal factors affect intrinsic motivation: self-esteem, participation, and most importantly the gospel. Principles of adult learning, learning style theory, and the 4MAT system of learning potentially enhance motivation.
