With insights from this review and an exploration of pedagogical methods, a mystagogy of the Sacrament of Penance was designed and shared with a group of adult Catholics. The author used the scripture readings of the Easter Season Year A in a Parish Mission event. The study tested the effectiveness of the preaching through a questionnaire both before and after the preaching. Drawing conclusions from these, the author holds that preachers can compose powerful mystagogical preaching by combining life experience, Sacred Scripture, and elements of the liturgy (ritual words, symbols, or actions) in the Easter Season and throughout the Church Year. The author also provides a methodology for preparing a mystagogical homily.
