The paper describes the history and nature of narrative, and explores the relationship of narrative to the Psalms. After a general discussion of the Psalms and the rise of narrative preaching, this paper examines nine sample psalms--22, 23, 42-43, 51, 57, 73, 79, 136, and 137, to see how story elements are present in, around and through the text. It also describes a way for preachers to adopt actions to aid in preaching them.  Story sermons have become a vitally important way to communicate the Word of God in the author's local congregation in southwest Idaho.  The paper traces a shift of attitude toward a more experiential and diverse quality of perception.  The author searches to see if there are ways of preparing, preaching, and evaluating storied sermons that are more in line with the storied experience.  The actions or phases of internalization, interaction, deeper connections, and story creation emerge as effective ways of approaching this task.  These actions are fluid practices that a preacher can move between in the process of sermon creation. The Ignatian method was used as a means to structure the program.  Holy Land imagery was also employed.  This research is an evaluation study in the descriptive mode utilizing researcher-designed interview questions to track participant life change. The practicum's hypothesis is that when laywomen are introduced to their history through stories of significant laywomen and are provided occasions for personal reflection in the light of these stories, the experience will be empowering.  Women's contemporary situation is described and history is surveyed to substantiate the need for empowerment. The significance of stories is examined from both theological and feminist points of view. The church has sought to meet this problem with a strong storytelling approach.  The writer's thesis is that storyteller training is important for improving teacher quality.  To aid in training, the writer has developed a workshop guide through which even unskilled storytellers can help each other improve their skills, especially with use of tape recorders. Foundation studies covered the Korean church school context and the psychological, theological, and biblical backgrounds of story. The process of 'faith story-sharing,' a methodology designed to enable older adults to recall, share and celebrate their individual faith journeys, is introduced and utilized to allow elders to explore the meaning of their life stories in relationship to the biblical story and their identity in their communities. The author researched current life review and reminiscence methods and then developed a unique process that differs in three distinct ways: faith story-sharing is (1) faith-based, (2) a communal experience, and (3) honors the cultural and religious traditions of older African American women.
