Most of the study focuses twelve such pastors in Alabama with advanced degrees from various theological seminaries. In the course of the author reading literature, conducting interviews, writing the dissertation and reflecting upon his own experiences, it was clear to him that seminaries, local churches and conventions must play a part in responding to the needs of these pastors. The Foreign Misison Board (FMB), an auxiliary of the NBC-INC, was given the responsibility to implement the initiative. After the FMB gathered pertinent information, it planned and implemented an HIV/AIDS Leadership Empowerment Conference in South Africa July 4-9, 2004. This practice of affiliating with more than one convention raises questions as to the theological and practical problems it may  engender for black Baptists.  This research raises the question of why dual alignment?  This project examined dual alignment though the lens of ordination, contrasting the standards of American Baptists with those of National Baptists, USA Inc.
