Christianity's incarnational character, the bodily Resurrection of the One in whom, by whom, and for whom everything was created, makes God, humans, and the material world inseparable. As such, the Christian God is the first, true environmentalist. In this understanding, theology must respond to environmental concerns. The relationship between ecology and theology was explored within a small Christian community, the place where the Living God can be experienced and where ecological disasters occur. This analysis led to the development of a seven-session seminar designed to help ordinary Christians and Christian ministers in their effort to build a true communio between God, humans, and the rest of creation."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["0f245891-e4c1-47d9-842b-9aefbafae138"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791135276705251328,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:48:30.603Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T03:23:09Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:22:42Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"5d9de092-80b6-46eb-a2cf-ae371b2f3baf","accessControl_ssim":["66312b87-e455-43f5-a638-bb4df952c2ec"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Consider the trees of an orchard"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T03:23:09Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:53:00Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["65e5a60c-774e-4c11-a8b0-62a486114086"],"hasLease_ssim":["085dfa6d-df1a-4d9d-8ff8-d7cbd8376cfe"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School"],"advisor_tesim":["Robert J Kennedy"],"year_tesim":["1994"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Stephen P Devine"],"keyword_tesim":["Theology, Reformed"],"publisher_tesim":["Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School"],"subject_tesim":["Creation","Nature--Religious aspects--Christianity","Fox, Matthew"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Recent interest and awareness of enviromental issues has caused a resurgence of the study of natural theology within the Christian Church named by Matthew Fox as creation-centered theology. The spiritual development of individual members of a rural Presbyterian congregation and the spiritual enrichment of the community of faith at large, as observed by the pastor, is explored utilizing the heuristic model of an apple orchard. The comparison of the nurture of trees and enrichment of individuals and congregation employs the praxis circle of practical theology as delineated by James Poling and Donald Miller. In doing so the praxis circle begins with the experience of the individuals, describes and evaluates the two opposing theologies within the congregation, seeks to find correlation of creation-centered theology and Reformed theology in secular disciplines, ecclesiastical mandates, and denominational documents, which gives rise to new guidelines and practices for the faith community and its members. It is affirmed that the heuristic model of an apple orchard is helpful to describe spiritual development."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791126105621528576,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:22:44.376Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T02:25:47Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:05:20Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"86750276-b4aa-47b1-ac47-0bb4b4c7b006","accessControl_ssim":["e7f4e331-da4d-48df-a55e-82f6b08008e0"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["A ministry of environmental stewardship with youth at the First Baptist Church of Bladenboro, North Carolina"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T02:25:46Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:05:36Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["415ee598-5d9e-4bd2-9d26-2d102c63ded0"],"hasLease_ssim":["3fcc01ff-6c03-4408-92d4-23ded31e85e1"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Southern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Page Kelley"],"year_tesim":["1992"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Emmit S Ayers"],"publisher_tesim":["Southern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Church work with youth","Nature--Religious aspects--Christianity","First Baptist Church (Bladenboro, NC)","Human ecology"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The purpose of the project was to increase the biblical and theological consciousness of the youth group, resulting in positive environmental stewardship and lifestyle changes. Re-visiting Biblical texts from Genesis, Job and the Epistles, the author addresses themes including the goodness of God's creation, our relationship with the land, early Hebraic understandings of ecology, salvation of non-human entities, and, of course, the Biblical imperative to love our neighbor. This exegetical probe of the Bible concludes that our new neighbor, lying battered beside the road to Jericho, is the earth. The author draws on several scholars to evaluate the ethics of loving the earth, concluding that eco-spirituality invites believers to expand their reverence, respect, and love for each other and God to include God's creation--to value the earth as God values it. The author discusses mentors from the past who have blended their love of God with their love of the earth and provides two group exercises in eco-spirituality as teaching models for Christian educators."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["0f245891-e4c1-47d9-842b-9aefbafae138"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791135129016467456,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:46:09.756Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":9,"label":"Unknown"},{"value":"D.Min.
