Crisis counseling programs of these churches were inadequate to meet congregational needs.  The purpose of this study was to develop a joint interchurch crisis counseling program which would be based on a psychological and theological point of view.  A twenty-four hour Christian crisis counselor training program was developed for six target churches, emphasizing a biblical basis for crisis counseling and Adam's nouthetic counseling system. This study is theologically informed by the concept of faith as grace with courage, the power enabling individuals to encounter and calm the anxiety of finitude.  The research designed is quasi-experimental using a pretest, posttest and comparison group.  It is an outcome study. Total participants in the study numbered 68.  Statistical analysis consisted of an analysis of variance and linear step regression of gain scores.  The research hypothesis was affirmed at the .05 level of significance. The training program consisted of six sessions which made the counselors aware of the feelings of grief, and how they might effectively relate to persons in grief.  After training, seven of the ten persons trained were willing to be assigned to bereaved persons whom they contacted on a regular basis.  These contacts proved to be helpful to the bereaved persons over the six months to a year that they related to them. The theological implications of marriage as covenant are explored in order to give a solid rationale for expanding and intensifying the pastor's work with engaged couples. The report outlines how the 'Myers-Briggs Personality Type Inventory' has been helpful in promoting understanding between couples and how this basic tool can be incorporated into the process of pre-marital counseling. Three pastoral diagnostic variables - communion, repentance, and grace or gratefulness - of the seven pastoral diagnostic variables designated by Paul W Pruyser are found to be significant themes in the life stories of these recovering alcoholics and are used effectively as counseling parameters.  Four of these alcoholics in long-term sobriety are interviewed in oral and written sessions.  Two of them in short-term sobriety are seen in either short- or long-term counseling. Three sub-hypotheses relating to sex, age and religiosity also are tested.  Data is collected using Dean's MmPI and a Theological Preference Inventory (TPI) developed for this research (reliability: .89).  The MmPI results (N'119) are clustered into four personality clusters. An adapted Loderian model then provides a four-dimensional structure through which the author analyzes four case studies of psychotherapy processes and dynamics.
