Culture can pose a stumbling block insofar as it directs how we communicate, think, behave, and perceive things. The first generation Korean pastors experience racial and cultural collisions when they serve cross-racial/cross-cultural appointments. With adequate preparation, however, cross-racially/cross-culturally appointed clergy to this service can provide the bridge between two cultures. They can mediate between the cultures. Therefore, the first two chapters of this project demonstrate a complete frame of reference for conducting marriage and family counseling including explication of a fully integrated biblical/theological rationale for such counseling interventions. The special third chapter on premarital counseling is included to emphasize the importance of this often over-looked resource in marriage and family counseling. The theoretical framework for marriage and family counseling ministry presented in this project is cogently informed by the literature review in the second chapter leading to a clear definition of stylistic differentials. An example of one preferred and experientially typical style of intervention is demonstrated in the fourth chapter through a comprehensive family case study. The case study includes essential components of evaluative and interventive planning, such as diagnostic tools and apparatus, description and assessment of individual and family system dynamics, conceptualization process and development of a cohesive treatment plan using cognitive-behavioral therapy, family systems therapy, and resources for spiritual formation, growth, and discipleship. The comprehensive treatment plan is followed in the fifth chapter by a critical evaluation and analysis of how the case has actually progressed to date. Based on the results of the assessment, a six-week expository sermon series was prepared and delivered. Quantitative and qualitative evaluative procedures indicated that the series, informed by insights from the pastoral assessment, did enhance the congregation's sense that the messages were connecting with them. The results of the study suggest that chaplains may have a role in helping patients address their unresolved forgiveness issues and lowered motivation by helping the patients work through a forgiveness process.  For patients with conditions caused at least in part by their own behavior, or even by someone else, offers case studies of pastoral care provided in light of unresolved forgiveness issues and a working through of a forgiveness process.
