Volunteers took part in an intensive eight-week Christian caregiving course.  The course was designed to equip members with the basic skills necessary to provide competent pastoral care.  Three evaluative tools were used as the primary data gathering instruments: a caregivers' survey, a caregivers' interest questionnaire, and the Christian caregivers' course evaluation.  Results indicated that participants had the passion, gifts, and skills necessary for a care-oriented ministry. This work focuses primarily on the grief associated with death.  Rather than helping pastors to find the right answers, attention is given to helping pastors ask the right questions in cross-cultural grief care. Perceptions regarding theodicy and case histories of this particular aspect of their faith journeys were analyzed to determine if process similarities existed. A study model was developed and applied to all of the interview data, and a sequence was observed. Interventions included creation of a new shared decision making team that was representative of clinical pastoral education staff, staff chaplains, and students.  Evaluation of thesis interventions focused on assessing changes in the attitudes of staff members from early resistance to collaboration. The author studied the areas of pastoral care, spiritual formation, and Wesleyan practice, and applied principles to the local congregation through trained caregivers. As trusted church members, caregivers were consistently in contact with receivers by phone to listen, encourage and pray with them. This plan was marginally successful. The pastor was moved before being able to fully realize the results of the plan. Utilizing cinematherapy in a Christian counseling setting may further the expression of feelings, beliefs, worldviews, and values by tapping into the narrative medium of popular culture which is familiar and non-threatening to children. Cinematherapy as a therapeutic intervention introduces another level of viewing that focuses on identification and connection with characters in the movie. Movies viewed with an intentional focus as assigned or prescribed in cinematherapy invite reflection, comparison, and analysis that can promote theological formation and psychological development. The power of narrative to shape and influence individuals is demonstrated through reviews of narrative theology and narrative therapy. Narrative serves as the connection between these fields and the newer concept of cinematherapy.
