This was a qualitative study using a stratified sample of six Sisters who had been sexually abused as children and had engaged in some form of pastoral counseling regarding this issue.  The results indicated that the convent was not always a safe place, that pastoral counselors have not always addressed the issue of sexual abuse, and that most of the participants have used the process of pastoral psychotherapy to recommit to religious life. Over the past five-year period, interviews were conducted in a population consisting of Brethren clergy, district executives, and laypersons in three districts.  These districts represent 80 percent of the total Brethren population area.  The research undertaken for this project involved a phenomenological/experiential and analytical/interpretive methodology. This thesis was explored using two methods of data collection: a series of case consultation meetings involving two separate clergy groups; and a survey of 228 Michigan clergy. The Apostle Paul is used as a model to demonstrate how this could be done within a local church. Legislation applying to Medicare-certified hospices required them to employ a 'pastoral or other counselor.'  This stipulation is often overlooked.  1987 research found that generally the social worker fulfills the counseling function.  A survey of Massachusetts Medicare-certified hospices conducted for this project found similarly.  The problem was investigated by the survey, literature review, interview with AAPC's Executive Director, and critique by peer pastoral counselors. Syncretism has occurred when shamanism meets Christianity, with the result that Koreans are confused about the nature of faith.   Field research demonstrates a positive correlation (0.763) between shamanism and spiritual depression.  A worksheet was made for the spirituality depressed in accordance with the special context of shamanism.
