The hypothesis is that within the disciplined practice of pastoral psychotherapy, experiences of a religious quality emerge in ways which effect significant change and healing in a person's emotional life.  The project of defining and using a model of pastoral psychotherapy is conceived as a theological appropriation of a secular theory of psychotherapy as practiced in clinical cases of pastoral psychotherapy.
