Recorded here are a personal account of my interest in congregational CPE, a rationale for congregational CPE, a curriculum, feedback from students noting progress (or lack thereof) in developing emotional intelligence, other models of congregational CPE, what others have written about this type of program, theological reflection on this education process, and a conclusion naming some benefits and questions based upon this unit of congregational CPE. Each of these pieces records an aspect of an education process that is greater than the sum of its parts. The real project occurred as students and I met for several hours on Thursdays for six months to engage with each other in ways for each of us to become better pastors. The stories of their growth illustrate how their development of emotional intelligence informed their pastoral identity and competence as leaders in their places of ministry. They grew into themselves and their call as pastoral leaders, a process for which I am grateful."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Western Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["c24f9e0f-f5f0-45a3-b7f1-6a406c6902fb"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791135414216556544,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:50:41.744Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:42:30Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:53:54Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"969aeb15-8f9f-4312-a001-903fa243897a","accessControl_ssim":["2b8f2bae-dc3d-4b60-a2b5-76e4e7fc7202"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Self-regulation as a function of pastoral leadership"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:42:29Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:32:11Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["f483dbb9-d7b1-4968-9dc7-64a84f4f6d7d"],"hasLease_ssim":["e737407c-b64a-47e9-9fda-eb87a171e827"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Western Theological Seminary"],"year_tesim":["2008"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. Will these three often disparate pieces weave together into new understandings that can improve the pastor's own functioning? This project is designed to begin to answer these questions.Chapter One presents the history of the development of Murray Bowen's Family Systems Theory and the eight main concepts of this theory. Chapter Two will be an in-depth examination of my family of origin which will discuss the patterns of family functioning I discovered as I completed my family genogram, similar to a family tree.Chapter Three will briefly examine the history of one of the congregations I served in an attempt to discover the roots of that particular congregation's functioning. Chapter Four will be an in-depth examination of the biblical account of the patriarch Jacob/Israel.Chapter Five will integrate these three elements, my family story, the congregational story, and the biblical story, to demonstrate how the common elements that existed in all three of these stories led to a 'Eureka' moment for my life and ministry. Chapter Six, the concluding chapter will describe how other pastors, if they are already familiar with Bowen Theory and family emotional processes, may begin to apply the approach described in this paper within their own lives and ministries to increase their ability to regulate anxiety and self-differentiate within the life of the congregation."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Western Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["c24f9e0f-f5f0-45a3-b7f1-6a406c6902fb"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791135617171587072,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:53:55.297Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:40:21Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:53:12Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"6ee21557-4f3f-4e53-84fb-dcb72367e7cd","accessControl_ssim":["b7ee8427-5ba9-49dd-b3c8-b1336edaea6d"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["An inward-outward witness : suffering's role in forming faithful preachers"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:40:19Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:22:49Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["55894786-b03a-47b3-a63b-4d32afeff1fd"],"hasLease_ssim":["a05c6efa-b811-4f91-987e-0435c3508190"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Western Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Chuck DeGroat Ph.D."],"year_tesim":["2020"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. Preachers who have endured life’s deeper dramas and dark nights of the soul are potentially able to better identify with the biblical narrative and then relate that narrative to communities of hurting people, especially in an epoch when escapism and denial toward hardship are becoming increasingly normative. This is not to suggest that while walking the pathway of faithfulness, the devout preacher must embark upon a reconnaissance mission to locate suffering. Rather, since suffering is both universal and specific to the Christian life, those shepherding God’s people must adequately embrace and harness suffering to present hearers with the whole counsel of God (Acts 20:27)."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Western Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["c24f9e0f-f5f0-45a3-b7f1-6a406c6902fb"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791135574173679616,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:53:14.291Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:39:52Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:52:34Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"5c688601-bdc7-47ff-a642-477bb13ff3fa","accessControl_ssim":["06f94f91-c613-4f33-b112-e0d07c9fb4a1"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Childhood denied : a psychospiritual reflection on the daughters of narcissistic mothers"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:39:51Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:51:01Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["78d4b16f-8789-476a-8695-000382b44a67"],"hasLease_ssim":["0299a563-7a81-4174-8547-488898e2c8d7"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Western Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Chuck DeGroat Ph.D."],"year_tesim":["2020"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. The guidance is offered in manual form intended for use in the Episcopal Church. However, it is expected that the guidance will be useful likewise across denominations and other faith communities.Five learning units inform the development of a doctoral project. Unit One comprises a reflection on relevant personal experience by engaging the works of René Girard on mimetic theory, violence and scapegoating. This reflection completes the writer’s disengagement from personal events and enables objectivity.Unit Two examines secondary literature for data on the nature of conflict, and methods of conflict management. Work includes reading data on the nature of societies, family systems, on evolution with implications among humankind. Literature on management and organizational models in the business world are consulted. A Draft Intervention Model (DIM) in longitudinal steps with named assumptions and pre-requisites is the result. The DIM is submitted for peer review.Unit Three develops a survey tool with interview protocols for action research. Underpinning the data collection is a Theological Vision Statement. Data accrues from survey responses, face-to-face, electronic and phone interviews. Assessment of data begins supplemented by coursework in Grounded Theory Methodology.Unit Four draws from earlier studies to create the Revised Intervention Model assessed in Unit Five by a review panel of seven experts and practitioners from different social and academic disciplines. The experts provide a written review of the RIM. The outcome is the Final Intervention Model located here in Chapter 4.This Doctor of Ministry study seeks to answer the question: Does the Intervention Manual for Episcopal Congregations offered here provide clear guidance for individuals called to serve in pastoral leadership for churches separated from clergy out of conflict?"],"license_tesim":["https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/"],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"related_url_tesim":["https://repository.westernsem.edu/xmlui/handle/1866/1497"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Western Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["c24f9e0f-f5f0-45a3-b7f1-6a406c6902fb"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791135696957734912,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:55:11.387Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:38:18Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:51:48Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"3586482c-4b9f-4626-a7c5-cb878335d803","accessControl_ssim":["4350c6ec-7310-473c-915e-105988755caf"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Beyond trying harder and before giving up : the story of a missional church in Canada"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:38:17Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:40:39Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["fa1e9aee-ee4b-4236-9970-b95ba8bc2b6f"],"hasLease_ssim":["7352985d-5b95-4365-b0df-53e14dbbf9bb"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Western Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["James Brownson Ph.D."],"year_tesim":["2017"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. God called me homeward, near to the place of my birth and upbringing, to find it. Located among the marginalized of society on the southeast side of the city of Welland, Ontario, Canada, is 36-year-old Christ Community Church. In the aftermath of successive short-term pastorates which ended badly and included an exodus of members in 2005, amid the further economic decline of a once prosperous manufacturing city of 50,000 people, the ministry then 26-years-old was in crisis. With the support of Classis Ontario a specialized Interim Minister was hired for the purpose of discerning whether the church could be revitalized. I accepted the “Call” to serve as its Pastor in June of 2006. It was then that a journey of transformation began. This is a story of dependency on the grace of God. The Apostle Paul describes it in 2 Corinthians 12:9 “But he (the Lord) said to me ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’”1 It is a story that affirms and challenges traditional ecclesiology. It affirms the importance of learning from others in our family of churches through documents such as Transformed and Transforming. 2 Yet, this story challenges traditional ecclesiology with regard to the expectation of self-sufficiency and self-sustainability. It is a story of a small Canadian Church in a hurting place that is being transformed by and with the marginalized people in its context, all the while being dependent upon the grace of God and all of the partners God provides for its own existence."],"license_tesim":["https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/"],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"related_url_tesim":["https://repository.westernsem.edu/xmlui/handle/1866/1986"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Western Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["c24f9e0f-f5f0-45a3-b7f1-6a406c6902fb"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791135485422206976,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:51:49.651Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:37:16Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:52:04Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"3f134557-9195-4e53-ae6f-c950f845a85b","accessControl_ssim":["afb57c42-4fbb-4152-84c9-bfea6d4922f8"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Mindfulness for healthcare staff with direct patient care"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:37:15Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:57:31Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["9d7cd2a9-120e-4c51-bbc7-e34daa613405"],"hasLease_ssim":["35fdf359-d028-4cdf-8ae2-3eeff8e1eea8"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Western Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Chuck DeGroat Ph.D."],"year_tesim":["2019"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. I experience firsthand their stress and anxiousness which results in high staff turnover and highly emotional reactions. Reaching a place of engaged separation allows one to be involved compassionately and fully in the care and concern of another without being lost in the storyline of the other’s personal history. In an increasingly more anxious and violent society, we need healthcare staff practicing mindfulness to embody well-being and personal health. When the staff is stressed and anxious, so are those under their care -- an observation applicable to the home, church, and other areas of life outside the hospital walls. In my particular context of Memorial Hospital in South Bend, Indiana, I examined the factors that lead to burnout and compassion fatigue as well as the history of contemplation as it translates into our current practices of mindfulness. I researched and articulated five mindful practices that seem to be the most effective for the least amount of effort. Ten of the CVICU staff at Memorial Hospital were asked to participate in mindfulness engagements to attempt to measure the effectiveness of mindfulness in mitigating the stress and burnout. The study results were sparse; however, they point to mindfulness requiring both time and energy to truly become a helpful practice for managing stress."],"license_tesim":["https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/"],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"related_url_tesim":["https://repository.westernsem.edu/xmlui/handle/1866/9316"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Western Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["c24f9e0f-f5f0-45a3-b7f1-6a406c6902fb"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791135502583201792,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:52:06.017Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:36:43Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:55:00Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"d6e5e126-bcb1-4172-a896-546e797178ff","accessControl_ssim":["b301fba7-b1af-471f-9026-2e199b370e6c"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Sudden illness and storytelling : identifying spiritual resilience in a liminal space : a phenomenological and narrative research project"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:36:42Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:16:27Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["5f78cc54-c4b0-47c8-afc4-588c7eb764b8"],"hasLease_ssim":["b90dc23d-d3dc-4663-9a38-c5aba2609514"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Western Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Chuck DeGroat Ph.D."],"year_tesim":["2021"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. But this does not take into consideration that the patient’s perception of quality of life is at stake during the treatment journey. While healthcare providers will discover in their assessments the patients they treat have a form of faith, once the patient brings the words out into the open, some providers don’t know what to do. What does a provider do when the patient’s God language impinges upon the proposed treatment plan? Many providers recognize these words as those of hope, and no provider wants to trample on whatever hope the patient is expressing; that is considered cruel and not good medicine."],"license_tesim":["https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/"],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"related_url_tesim":["https://repository.westernsem.edu/xmlui/handle/1866/9338"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Western Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["c24f9e0f-f5f0-45a3-b7f1-6a406c6902fb"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791135687095877632,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:55:01.982Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T18:34:08Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:49:05Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"96f01272-728a-4912-9f92-069c733f5e7d","accessControl_ssim":["da81f974-a855-4d28-8f2b-8bd7c63ba884"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Breaking Free From Personality-Driven Ministry"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T18:34:07Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:32:51Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["6745a5b9-5554-45ff-bb47-6de673209931"],"hasLease_ssim":["5726c9a2-d9ae-4314-900b-c827479caff0"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"discipline_tesim":["Leadership","Ministry Management"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Trinity Evangelical Divinity School"],"advisor_tesim":["Wayne Johnson Ph.D.","William Donahue Ph.D.","Greg Scharf Ph.D."],"year_tesim":["2017"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. The project considers the biblical mandate to pursue humility, exegeting both narrative and didactic passages from the New and Old Testament, and then considers secular and Christian literature on the topic of humility and leadership. The field research includes qualitative and quantitative data seeking the perspectives of both clergy and lay leaders on what effective, humble leadership should look like and evaluates the responses in light of the biblical material and literature studied. The conclusion of the project is that humble, non-personality-driven church ministry is not only possible but should be pursued in a context of team leadership, accountability, and personal disciplines. Central to the project's findings is the need for a leader to nurture and pursue a gospel-focused vision."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Trinity Evangelical Divinity School"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["c654e922-76d0-4427-ac29-e286b7997781"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799719376357687296,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:49:05.971Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T18:30:53Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:35:23Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"30e3abb6-37ef-4197-8c71-85dbe0ebf074","accessControl_ssim":["662b288b-7112-4864-b349-475ae6ad9047"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Between mental illness and faith: the commission of pastoral care"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T18:30:53Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:33:17Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["30a21ea6-ada6-42fe-be8e-55be86d538ac"],"hasLease_ssim":["d52a3369-fdb9-486d-93ee-1adad486f43a"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Covenant Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Richard Winter"],"year_tesim":["2018"],"resource_type_tesim":["Dissertation"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Lawrence Morganfield III"],"subject_tesim":["Health and religion","Pastoral psychology","Church work","Pastoral counseling"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This dissertation was researched to discover how churches are meeting the needs of the mentally ill parishioners. It is not yet known how deeply mental illness has affected the church, but its influences are being felt to the point where the church cannot sit by idly and ignore these needs or hope that they will go away. Unfortunately, many church leaders have not incorporated support for the mentally ill in their pastoral care repertoire yet.
