Increases in a pastor's self-described confidence and competency were reported in questionnaires at the conclusion of the training and at 1 and 3 months following the seminar.  A strong majority felt better prepared to work with mixed agenda couples (polarized as to the future of the marriage) and would recommend the training to others. A process guided by pastoral care conversations invited parishioners to acknowledge their raw feelings, explore their sources of pain, wrestle with faith practices and open to healing experiences. The hermeneutical approach to this project was based in narrative. Various research tools were used to aid this congregation to connect with the wider story of the church including: focus groups, surveys, semi-structured interviews, and feedback forms. In the context of 'deep listening,' conversation was an effective and inclusive leadership approach to healing this conflicted conversation and cultivating within them the capacity to discern a shared sense of mission and vision. After an introduction, describing the parameters, the project defines and illustrates the male wound. References to psychological theory blend these insights with recent history of male development and father-and-son relationships.  Two case histories illustrate the place of the male wound in therapy with clients.  The project offers a theology of God as healing Father. A revised psychological approach leads to the process of healing the male wound, by rethinking and reworking father-son relationships. The research involved a Likert-type questionnaire, open-ended comments and personal interviews (39) completed by a combined total of 204 persons, 60 pastors and 144 lay persons.  The study demonstrates that the pastoral relations committees are an effective means of support and feedback for ministry and serve, secondarily, but helpfully, in the area of personnel matters.  The pastoral relations committees theological framework relies heavily upon 'unconditional acceptance'.  The author recommends further theological development focused on the stewardship of gifts. By sharing knowledge and experience they enhance the newly assigned chaplain's self-confidence, effectiveness, and early success.  The author's research includes twenty-two years experience on active duty as well as the study of books, pamphlets, articles, Air Force regulations, retreats, workshops, chaplain board materials, commander's presentations, lay and clergy group meetings.  Careful guidance gives the new chaplain an opportunity to develop his or her intrinsic value.
