Brown"],"subject_tesim":["Mission of the church","Church history","Church work","Pastoral theology","Preaching"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This project is an appreciative inquiry of a homiletical method that involves interiorizing Scripture for performance as it’s offered at Pillar Church leading to increased missional engagement within the congregation. Through conversations with members of the Pillar congregation, as well as reflections from other pastors who practice a similar homiletical method, there is evidence that this homiletical method influences congregational missional engagement. The process is long and requires patience, but the stories suggest there is a connection. As this project unfolds, I do hope to demonstrate through the lives of some of the participants in Pillar’s life and worship that there is a relationship between indwelling the Word for the sermon and a congregation’s missional life. I intend to offer a homiletical vision rooted in the missionary work of Leslie Newbigin, and the pastoral work of Eugene Peterson. This vision is demonstrated in the church’s first sermon by the Apostle Peter at Pentecost. A homiletical vision that calls the preacher to indwell the story of God as it is given in Scripture and offered to the people of God such that the missional engagement of a congregation increases. I intend to offer a homiletical method congruent with this vision that engages Newbigin’s notion of indwelling the word and Peterson’s notion of the pastoral ministry. In this way it will bring into conversation two leading voices in different sectors of the Western church today who are often not recognized as calling the church to a similar vision. They run the risk of being unkindly labeled as poor examples for the ministry. Some boldly attempt to return and try to reintegrate in the Lord’s work. But not easy! The failed pastor’s family undoubtedly will suffer embarrassment, shame, and emotional duress. The project director utilized the Transformational Church Assessment Tool and the Prompempo International Church Missions Profile to assess the current health of SURV Church.  A demographic study and interview with a Missions organization helped determine a wellness baseline.  The director studied the Bible, theological resources, and other healthy church practices to determine healthy indicators and best practices.  The project director developed a health strategy with the support of church members input. By equipping parents in personal spiritula formation skills, contextualized in cultural realities and development stages of children, the project director enables primary spiritula influencers to effectively transmit Christian faith to present and emerging generations.  In this project in ministry, the project director researched fields of spiritual formation and family ministry, synthesizing his research into a listing of five personal and faith building essential skills, and created an experiential curriculum. The author worked at a major urban hospital to give spiritual care to palliative care outpatients. The author also surveyed fourteen area palliative care organizations to see how they provide spiritual care for this population. The researcher examined various theories concerning the cause of pregnancy among young unmarried women; theories such as poverty, poor home life, the absence of fathers, and others. The qualitive portion of the dissertation consisted of interviews, surveys, empirical evidence, graphs, and others. Using a mixed methods approach enabled the Researcher to tailor it to a select audience. The design of the project included a quantitative and qualitative survey that assessed the level to which integration was executed. Upon completion of analyzing the data, success with integration of the protocols was revealed, with goal six being most prominent--the participants understanding the purpose of training in formational prayer.
