Using focus groups and theological reflection, the project explores these connections while using Matthew's boat stories to illustrate characteristics of engaged ministry. The project tested that in making these connections, a congregation became more aware of the stories of the 'other' by connecting with the stories of people, enabling a willingness to become more involved with engaged ministry. This paper's primary question is: from the perspective of the congregation has this co-pastoral approach to professional ministry been successful in attaining the goals and objectives intended when co-pastors were called to serve the congregation? This work examines the biblical and theological foundations of the professional relationship as well as the initial objectives of the congregation in developing this approach to pastoral leadership. It will also provide the training needed to direct the sufferer to accept the unexpected direction their life has taken and find God's purpose for their situation. I have used an Archival Educational Methodology including many interviews with physicians treating chronic pain and with patients experiencing long-term chronic pain. To answer the research questions, qualitative research methods were used, specifically methodological triangulation: a questionnaire was disseminated to one group, and interviews were conducted with two other groups of prayer ministers. The instruments were developed for data collection. A pilot study was conducted ensuring reliability and validity; adjustments were made accordingly. The author proposes a biblical, Christ-centered approach for understanding PSTD and finding healing. Biblical templates challenge traditional psychological interventions and pose the possibility of new constructs for understanding trauma. The author developed and administered a 23-item questionnaire to 165 recent combat veterans and conducted 30 interviews of soldiers who have served in either Iraq or Afghanistan. Many postmoderns do not start from an understanding of the Judeo-Christian faith or believe in absolute truth, but see truth as an unfixed perspective relative to the community in which an individual lives. Yet postmoderns are deeply spiritual and longing for shelter from the bombardment of news about the economy, natural disasters, wars, and famines. They long for a home where they can find rest for their souls. The church is called to make known the God who is a shelter in the storm of life and a place of rest for weary souls. There are two ways in which the glorious Son of God is made known by the church: the preaching of Scripture and the worshiping community. Called the Reconciling Steps Approach, the model seeks marital reconciliation of physically or emotionally separated couples through a process of counseling steps. The author envisions that this model will be used primarily for counseling married couples who are part of the Christian faith community. The first chapter describes a theoretical foundation for multi-modal, action-oriented counseling controlled by the Christian world-view.  The second chapter explains the biblical and theological core convictions of the model and how these convictions guide the steps. The third chapter encompasses a literature review. The thesis of this paper is that Bowen theory can be a valuable formational resource to pastors for growing in the ability to minister faithfully in the face of the intense anxiety manifesting in congregations. The seminar met one day each month for eight months. This paper offers a theological foundation for pastoral formation, an introduction to the essential elements of Bowen theory, and draws correlations between theology and the theory. The paper includes a description of the curriculum components and learning methodologies used in the seminar. The author employed a phenomenological method of research to discuss the caring interactions between the preacher and the bereaved. It examined the human phenomenon of grief and loss and emphasized the intentionality of the funeral sermon and pastoral care to deal with the phenomenon of the death of a loved one.
