Effective pastors lead under God's truth, by God's grace and in covenant with God and people. These healthy connections result in leaders growing and learning even as they lead in the most challenging contexts. The answer a Christian gives to the problem of a loving God co-existing with the world's ills will necessarily affect his or her relationship with God. The research took place within five discussion groups; the researcher designed each session to cover one particular aspect of theodicy. Participants filled out questionnaires before and after each class. The researcher analyzed the differences between the pre- and post-class surveys. The patient's stories and experiences are valuable resource materials that can be utilized in the preparation and delivery of more effective homilies to the hospital community. In most churches, Sunday homilies do not effectively address the problems of the sick. Most Sunday homilies address the moral, social, economic, and political problems of the healthy members of the churches. This thesis is aimed at improving pastoral care ministry of the sick. This pastoral approach will provide a homiletical guide for preachers, pastors, and chaplains involved in hospital, hospice, and nursing home ministries. In order to test whether the integration of patients' stories in sermons makes a difference in how preaching is received by patients in a hospital setting, three homilies without patients' stories and three with patients' stories were preached to patients. The method of testing was with questionnaires designed to provide opportunities to patients to express how they felt about the homilies. Apart from using questionnaires, face-to-face conversations between the pastoral minister and patients were also provided. His congregation is made up of soldiers who are twenty to twenty-two and do not like the army life.  However, the soldiers encounter religions by choice in the military service.  Many soldiers come into contact with Christianity.  The author has thought about what these young soldiers want in their own spiritual lives and how the military church can help them. The author therefore asked the following questions regarding military mission in the light of pastoral care: (1) What is the meaning of military service for men, and what is the meaning of the period of military service in the life cycle?  (2) What is the soldiers' life before enrollment in military service, and what do they think of their lives after their service is completed? The forty-day emphasis taught the congregation to understand and appropriate their God-given role in the preaching moment. The effectiveness of the study was illustrated by entry and exit surveys taken by the class participants. Survey questions focused on both the students' understanding and behavior in relationship to the role of the Holy Spirit in the preaching moment. The research question is 'how can a congregation improve its ability to reach into the margins of the community?' The case study method was used to apply specific Wesleyan principles to a local congregation and evaluate their effectiveness for a congregation to minister in a community that is radically diverse. There are three issues to be explored in this study. First is to examine a congregation's process of reaching into a very diverse community. Second is to identify new methods and processes of reaching into a community that is rich in diversity. The toxic congregation is one that abuses power by attacking integrity and competence, withholding financial giving, making threats, physical harm, disrespect, resistance to new ideas, and extreme resistance to authority figures. God's providential care and the gift of discernment were very critical to the positive end result. The author wrote four sermons and planned four worship services based on those sermons. She charted questions on a Likert continuum, adding open-ended and reflection questions on a second page, and solicited volunteers to participate in the research. Seven worshipers volunteered, and attended four consecutive Sunday services, reflecting, answering questions on the form, and being interviewed.
