These words describe the dynamics which occur in pastoral care visits with older people.  The project states a brief definition of each word as a pastoral care concept.  It conducts a biblical word study and, through a questionnaire, asks peers in ministry (chaplains, visitation pastors, students) to critique the validity of the proposed approach. The researcher is a district justice and a pastor.  He uses his position to extract information from both professions on their perceptions of each others roles.  The study is based on the experience of the researcher, instrumentation and a workshop.  It shows the need for more pastoral involvement in the courts and shows that both pastors and district justices are open to such ministry.  It clarifies the role of the pastor in the court and challenges pastors to become involved in court ministry.  The study addresses five concerns of the district justices regarding pastoral involvement in the courts. Case studies and verbatims supplemented class presentations. The ten participants prepared additional studies from visits to inactive and prospective members, shut-ins and persons in crisis and grief.  Pre- and post-event instruments and interviews supplemented the evaluation data. Significant changes in the understanding and practice of caregiving as ministry were noted. This project explores the apologetics of Lewis from a pastoral perspective.  Lewis understood that Western society is profoundly secular in tone.  He wrote so as to appeal to secular people.  Lewis defended 'mere' Christianity, an understanding of the faith which was co-extensive with the ancient creeds; he resisted sectarianism and theological faddishness. Lewis's intellectual approach was augmented by a lifestyle which this thesis calls 'pastoral apologetics'.
