Will corn beer continue to dictate their way of life and define their identity? The heart of this project involved a group of young men who said they believe the gospel, and agreed to apply Hiebert's critical contextualization model to their use of corn beer. The project augmented the author's seminar Discover Your Ministry ID. The ministry of the whole people of God according to their God-given design, ministry role, and purpose was explored, along with examining Christian volunteer culture. Implementation included data-gathering, training workshops, and an appreciation banquet for volunteers. Jesus summed up these as the two most important commands. The purpose of this project was three-fold: to explore how people understood what it means to practice loving God and others to determine the impact this has on their spiritual growth; to determine if Christians demonstrate a holistic approach to loving God, or instead have a primary or choose a preferred method to loving and drawing close to God; and last, to work with individuals and small groups of Christians to recognize the import and centrality of the commands. The project occurred in seven stages. A comparison of the information gathered from the focus-group research to the post-training survey indicated the success of the project. Nonetheless a finding emerged revealing that in general participants did not understand and pr  actice loving God and loving others in the manner prescribed and exhorted throughout Scripture. The author found four themes; control and choices, faith, family diagnosis, doing versus dying. Using resources modeled on palliative care, leaders assist congregants through the stages of merger or closure.  An educational course for leaders participating in the Lay Servant Ministry program of the United Methodist Church was created. A combination of quantitative and qualitative field research was conducted to achieve the goals of this project. The thesis of this investigation is that pastoral care can be supportive and productive for families, especially during the experience of homelessness. The setting was an emergency shelter that was established for short-term service to women with children from infancy through adolescence. Using ethnographic methods with extensive narrative from the participants, mothers often offered glimpses of resilience in their lives as they shared with a pastoral care provider. I first explore the biblical and systematic theology of Christlike maturity. Next, I describe a series of interviews in which the three most common emerging themes affecting spiritual growth among graduate students were: limited time, the need for community, and spiritual growth through crises.
