The paper gives a biblical and historical overview and discusses contemporary objections to healing ministry.  It examines three settings where healing ministry is practiced. The author clarifies his theological understanding and traces through journal entries his initial experiential involvement in healing ministry.  He shares reflections/learnings which may be of value to others interested in beginning a practice of healing ministry. Among these learnings is the importance of empathic prayer and the engendering of hope.  Conveying God's care and desire for wholeness for creation is crucial.  Healing ministry should be an integral part of pastoral care ministry as well as of the congregation's life and ministry. A rite modeled on the 'Affirmation of Baptism' order in the Lutheran Book of Worship is used in parish visits.  Response forms from the visited are included in the project. The project sought to test the relationship between accountability groups devoted to the practice of classical spiritual disciplines and the development of a supportive community within the group.  It sought to determine the relationship between involvement within the group and involvement in the church at large. Methodology included the formation of two groups and testing of ministry involvement before and after the experience.  Results were mixed regarding the relationship between group involvement and leadership development. The project uses reminiscence, incorporated with a life review process, as a pastoral tool.  It assists the older adults in the process of bringing the events and relationships of the past to awareness in the present. Maslowian theory concerning human motivation, conflict between birth-culture ties and a competitive society and the scarcity of bi-lingual, cross-cultural programs shaped the author's philosophy of pastoral care.
