He developed a 'system' that helped actors perform in an authentic and truthful way. The author examined how Stanislavski's observations can be applied to preaching preparation. Five key areas were applied in the study; personal and corporate observation, using the 'circles of attention', deep study of texts used when preparing to preach, relaxation and authentic personal communication. The fifth element applied specific Stanislavskian terms - superobjective, bit and through-flow - in the construction of the homily. Through careful attention to and practice of voice, facial expressions, and body movements, a preacher can not only increase the effectiveness of their sermons, but a preacher can also find their own voice in preaching.  This conclusion was reached following two years of work on the performative aspects of preaching. A theological and hermeneutical case is made for the use of a conversational homiletic and the tested in a congregational setting. Included are sermons based on 'texts' from the arts placed in conversation with biblical texts preached in an urban congregation. Parishioners verified the validity of the project thesis through group and individual discussion and a congregational survey.
