The criteria for the selection was based on their suitability for teaching community values and relationships to young children.  The key moral values taught were love, kindness, caring, friendship, and sharing.  The five biblical stories were used as a center of interest when developing character and teaching values to the three to five-year-old preschoolers. Character education is easier to espouse in the abstract than to provide in the concrete.  So in writing the storytelling curriculum for character development, which I feel was successful, I tried to be as concrete as possible. The objectives for the writing of the curriculum were: (1) to develop a curriculum on Christian character development for preschoolers using a comparative approach which will be pilot-tested and then taught at the Goldia and Robert Naylor Children's Center at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary; (2) to develop supplementary ways to present character development, teaching and forms of evaluation which will include parents' participation; and (3) to gain firsthand experience in writing stories for preschoolers and understanding preschoolers as well as involving their parents in the process of character education."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["b2ad2862-737d-4dde-8145-b9b6962ac5f3"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791131776867893248,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:52:52.898Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T08:10:44Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:26:07Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"0decc628-201d-4531-8ec5-7ae5e1191814","accessControl_ssim":["e7f1ae2a-f1a8-4818-b86c-110c53917909"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The evaluation of a character based program that teaches universal principles in the context of relationships at North Cobb high school"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T08:10:44Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:30:51Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["2dd26dbf-2e2f-4ba7-bda4-73a9d881a152"],"hasLease_ssim":["286103f7-3e5d-4958-a06f-7384b61513ca"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Asbury Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Chris Keisling"],"year_tesim":["2003"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Lori E Salierno"],"publisher_tesim":["Asbury Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Personality development","High school students","Character"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Character formation among young people can be enhanced in a positive way if universal truth based on God's Word is taught in the context of positive relationships.  This study evaluates the methodology used in the delivery of a character-based program focused on universal principles in the context of relationships among public high school students at North Cobb high school in Kennesaw, Georgia.  While not an exhaustive study of character education, this study explores a successful method of facilitating character development.  Three research questions have guided this study: 1. What was the level of character in the target group at North Cobb high school at the beginning of the program? 2. How did the level of character change in the target group at North Cobb high school because of the program? 3. What was the quality of treatment given?  The literature review focuses on the biblical basis of character development and the transference of truth from one generation to the next, as well as contemporary sources on the most effective ways to teach character development."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Asbury Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["6c1e11e8-b66e-47b6-8fe9-6c546c20935c"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791133871375384576,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:26:10.375Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":2,"label":"Unknown"}],"label":"Resource Type"},{"name":"creator_sim","items":[{"value":"Charity Muringo Maichungo","hits":1,"label":"Charity Muringo Maichungo"},{"value":"Lori E Salierno","hits":1,"label":"Lori E Salierno"}],"label":"Creator Sim"},{"name":"contributor_sim","items":[],"label":"Contributor"},{"name":"keyword_sim","items":[],"label":"Keyword"},{"name":"subject_sim","items":[{"value":"Personality development","hits":2,"label":"Personality development"},{"value":"Character","hits":1,"label":"Character"},{"value":"Christian education of children","hits":1,"label":"Christian education of children"},{"value":"Goldia \u0026 Robert Naylor Children's Center","hits":1,"label":"Goldia \u0026 Robert Naylor Children's Center"},{"value":"High school students","hits":1,"label":"High school students"},{"value":"Moral education","hits":1,"label":"Moral education"}],"label":"Subject"},{"name":"location_sim","items":[],"label":"Location"},{"name":"language_sim","items":[{"value":"English","hits":2,"label":"English"}],"label":"Language"},{"name":"publisher_sim","items":[{"value":"Asbury Theological Seminary","hits":1,"label":"Asbury Theological Seminary"},{"value":"Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary","hits":1,"label":"Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary"}],"label":"Publisher"},{"name":"date_created_sim","items":[],"label":"Date Created"},{"name":"types_sim","items":[{"value":"Text","hits":2,"label":"Text"}],"label":"Type"},{"name":"year_sim","items":[{"value":"2003","hits":2,"label":"2003"}],"label":"Year"},{"name":"format_sim","items":[],"label":"Format"},{"name":"member_of_collections_ssim","items":[{"value":"Asbury Theological Seminary","hits":1,"label":"Asbury Theological Seminary"},{"value":"Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary","hits":1,"label":"Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary"}],"label":"Collections"},{"name":"degree_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":2,"label":"Unknown"}],"label":"Degree"},{"name":"discipline_sim","items":[],"label":"Discipline"},{"name":"degree_granting_institution_sim","items":[{"value":"Asbury Theological Seminary","hits":1,"label":"Asbury Theological Seminary"},{"value":"Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary","hits":1,"label":"Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary"}],"label":"Degree Granting Institution"},{"name":"department_sim","items":[],"label":"Department"},{"name":"funder_name_sim","items":[],"label":"Funder Name"},{"name":"event_title_sim","items":[],"label":"Event Title"},{"name":"event_date_sim","items":[],"label":"Event Date"},{"name":"institution_sim","items":[{"value":"Atla RIM","hits":2,"label":"Atla RIM"}],"label":"Host Institution"}],"pages":{"current_page":1,"next_page":null,"prev_page":null,"total_pages":1,"limit_value":10,"offset_value":0,"total_count":2,"first_page?":true,"last_page?":true}}}
