The model drew on Letty Russell's work in partnership and on proleptic strategic planning. Both models called for identifying vision before planning steps to get there.  As expected, partnership developed among the planners working toward a common interest. Serendipity, synergy and sharing characterized the budding partnership.  Beyond the original model, leadership that assured participation by all was important.  Clear lines of accountability, communication, and decision-making when planners reached the limits of institutional possibilities were also crucial. The diversity that appears to be threatening unity and advancement of the postdenominational church is in fact a gift of God.  This diversity, under guidance of the Holy Spirit and (in part) through the ministry of preaching, can be harnessed for great good in carrying out local church mission.  The project directed a process that drafted a statement of congregational identity for approval by the congregation. The project prepares young adult leaders to develop a ministry plan for young adults, teaching them characteristics and needs of young adults, training them to develop and implement surveys, and directing them in developing a ministry plan based on survey results.  The ministry plan was evaluated by selected church leaders and three young adult ministers. Using the experimental method of research, 13 influential church leaders learned to write their own church mission and vision statements in a series of eight training sessions studying the nature and mission of the church, the church's gifts, and the church's community.  Participating leaders reclarified their church's biblical mission and established a specific direction for ministry by writing the statements in their own words. This project examines the nature of the church through selected biblical, theological, literary, and sociological studies dealing with identity marking characteristics.  Congregational identity is an evolving, elusive concept.  Dominant themes can help to discern some of its basic qualities.
