A team of twelve volunteer leaders was chosen to study the demographics of the church and community, as well as ministry concepts that work.  They then developed a ministry strategy with a new vision/purpose statement and a target person personality profile.  They also created goals for improvement in six areas of concern.  These areas were building and grounds, organization and ministries, outreach and publicity, hospitality, visitation and follow-up, and integration of new members.  The result of this project was that the church went from being an inwardly focused church to a community-focused church. Calvary Baptist Church is the project's feature and the goal will be to develop a plan for growth that will assist the church in her faithfulness to the Great Commission of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ: to go, to preach, to teach, and to make disciples of all persons. Designing a two-year church growth plan will include the investigation and incorporation of a stream of church growth resources. Theologically, the plan for church growth must be built upon a solid biblical bedrock.  Studies must be made of the church and community to determine the demographics of the areas targeted.  Methods must be discovered and discernment made as to their feasibility for application to this ministry setting. Finally, a plan will be designed and an evaluation of the plan will be offered, to critique all that has been discovered and suggested as a means for church growth to occur. People tend to support what they helped to create. The practicum was conducted over a five-month period, being focused in the work of a ten-member task force.  After an initial phase of spiritual preparation, task force members were encouraged to define the congregation's 'ideal' mission through a modification of Richard Broholm's 'envisioning process.'  Congregational convocations helped the group refine its work for final presentation to the official church council.  Research hints at the value of a mission statement, management by objective, and the envisioning process in church administration.
