The author preached two sermon series in 2008 which examined some of the other moral questions facing Christians, particularly in an election year.  After each sermon series, the author offered opportunities for feedback and further discussion from laity. In response to the growing AIDS crisis the governor of Minnesota convened state leaders to develop a comprehensive statewide strategy.  This process provided a case study for exploring: (1) the intent of the religious community in regard to an emerging social issue with significant public policy implications; and (2) the impact of the religious community on those who are responsible for developing and implementing public policy.  Policy makers were virtually unaware of the efforts of the religious community, yet most of its positions resonated with the values of policy makers. Using the factorial survey approach as developed by Peter H Rossi, vignettes were constructed for response by persons in government.  These were analyzed, along with biographical data collected from the respondents. Results of research indicate people in state government practice religion themselves and are responsive to issues, both public policy-justice issues and self-interest issues of the religious community.  They place a high value on knowledgeability of advocates.
