Chapter one begins by examining the challenges that postmodern culture poses to preaching.  Chapter two defines postmodernism in three distinct but separate ways.  Chapter three uncovers the mood of postmodern culture and how postmodernism is, in many ways, an existential reaction to the downsides of modernity.  Chapter four focuses on discovering how America hears the gospel. understanding this is essential because it provides preachers with ample feedback on how listeners perceive the gospel.  Chapter five uses the metaphor of Greek mythology's Trojan Horse to anchor the concept that every culture possesses elements which function as barriers to the gospel.  Chapter six identifies elements within the culture which are user-friendly to the gospel. Chapter seven looks at oratorical and cultural factors which make messages stick to listener consciousness. Chapters eight and nine address the personal traits preachers must have to make a difference in a postmodern setting. The literature review focuses on the theological understanding of Jonah as a model for evangelizing the never churched as well as a discussion of postmodernism and Generation X. The research method was a survey of persons from eleven different churches. Over thirteen weeks a focus team was introduced to postmodern practice and thought and Christian apologetics. They learned to reword fundamental Christian doctrines in common language and view representative media Christianly, so that points of contact could be identified between the media and Christian beliefs. A pretest and post-test gauged the focus team's growth in their understanding of postmodernism and apologetics. Findings from this study indicate that after a fifteen week period of instruction, subjects are able to utilize a specified sequence of interrogatives with a moderate level of competency. A brief comparison of the Postmodern and Enlightenment eras is followed by communication principles and guidelines regarding clarity and relevancy.  Selected Greek terms referring to the act of preaching and New Testament 'sermons' will provide insight into developing clear and relevant sermons. The project leader recruited seventeen postmodern-age church members to participate in the project.  After the participants were recruited, the project leader trained them to understand and embrace their role in the project.  This project leader demonstrated that a communal, relational connection with postmodern people provides a foundation for evangelism.  Targeting a local group of gated communities, the participants attempted to call the postmodern people in these properties and invite them to attend a community event.  A mailed invitation coincided with the personal call. At the community event, the participatns helped the guests fill out a registration for the prizes, invited them to a social event with friends that week, and invited them to join them at church the next Sunday.  Through various obstacles discussed in the project, this project leader discovered valuable principles for the evangelization of postmodern people.
