Wesley's class meeting format and his ordo salutis, the patristic concept of prayer, disciplined living and the struggle with the 'passions' and contemporary understandings that spirituality involves the whole of one's being undergirded the project.  The goal was that through this experience participants would confirm and strengthen their responses to the gospel. Fourteen church members followed a daily devotional plan for six weeks.  Tested before, during, and after the six weeks of daily devotions, the participants reported frequency of perceived hindrance to worship and prayer life in devotion to God. M","Prayer"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Helping students learn more about praying and to practice a variety of forms of prayer was the goal of this project.  A theoretical basis derived from Erickson's theory of ego development and the spiritual theologies of Nouwen and Macquarrie were used to critique and design a program for junior high students.  Breakaway, a program of prayer and meditation (by Mark Link) was adapted and implemented with a group of sixty-one junior highs over a period of twenty-eight weeks. The program was evaluated by questionnaires and interviews with students and professional educators.  Although the students did not increase their frequency of prayer, their understanding was broadened, they were using a greater variety of prayer forms, and showed a willingness to pray with other people. The result of this project was a workshop that taught the Lord's Prayer as the scriptural basis, the prayer of the heart as the meditative process model, and journaling as an evaluative method.  The project was carried out in a prayer workshop in the First Baptist Church of Okeene, Oklahoma in February, 1984.  The workshop setting allowed a free interchange of ideas and dealt with the needs of the individual participants. The purpose was to introduce the literature about prayer, to facilitate discussion about prayer, and to nurture individual spiritual growth.  This paper includes a discussion of prayer in life, a survey of literature, description and evaluation of the two groups, theological reflections, and includes outlines of the sessions, a prayer worksheet, and an evaluation form for spiritual growth groups.
