a means of measuring 'vibrant' prayer, then develops a method by which it can be enhanced by a cell-based local church.  The author researched both the history and the methodology of prayer in the cell context.  The resulting 'prayer life' church-wide emphasis combined large group teachings with self-study materials and small group discussions and activities designed specifically to work within the cell-based church environment. More specifically, this dissertation reveals the need for a contextual model for the development of effective prayer and outreach in the new church. The author conducted a thorough examination of literary sources in the area of new church development. Current church growth research was also studied. In addition, the author drew upon effective, contextual models developed and implemented in pastoral ministry. The participants were given the eight-week class and evaluated by a pretest and posttest of the Spiritual Well-Being Scale, pretest and posttest interviews, and field research notes. Guided imagery prayer can heal the shame women feel. The process used was a spiritual retreat for women. They were led in guided imagery meditations of four healing stories of Jesus: the healing of the bent-over woman (Luke 13:10-17); the healing of Jairus' daughter (Mark 5:21-24a,35-43); the woman who had been bleeding for twelve years (Mark 5:24-34); and the woman at the well (John 4:4-30). After each exercise they participated in a discussion about their experience. The retreat was a positive experience for each woman. Some of them felt healing that day. Few of them continued to use the meditations by themselves after the retreat. Shame can be healed through guided imagery
