By writing in the form of a pastoral essay, I examine the privacy issues that exist in common church practices. I then look specifically at the Prayers of the People as they have been developing in the Evangelical and Reformed tradition of the United Church of Christ to highlight the growing need to have worship leaders and planners examine their Prayers of the People to see if there are privacy issues present in their worship. I seek to highlight the very real possible damages that can be caused through the unauthorized giving out of personal information in many of these prayers, while also pointing out the possible qualities of that prayer time that can be lost in an attempt to completely safeguard the privacy rights of all who are involved. I then suggest steps that can be taken to preserve public sharing during the Prayers of the People while simultaneously attempting to respect people's right to privacy. The project was fundamental to the life and work of ministry--the desire for spiritual growth, commitment, and excitement among the people. The researcher devised a ten-week preaching series and Bible study programme and a nine-week prayer course on prayer. The spiritual well-being of the congregation, Bible study groups, and the selected prayer course was tested pretest and posttest. It was assumed that it would. Materials were prepared and circulated to members of the congregation. Prior to distribution of the materials, and again afterwards, participants were asked to respond to a questionnaire in which they reported their practice of individual or household devotions. The difference in responses were then used to measure changes in attitude. A pretest and posttest were used to determine the knowledge and practice of different types of prayer, the knowledge and experience of the work of the Holy Spirit and the commitment to self-care.  Results show that students gained in their knowledge and understanding of formational prayer and made a better commitment to self-care. It takes a case study on an urban Chinese congregation in New York state with designed teaching material (six sessions) to be tested and evaluated as the method of research.  It concludes that Martin Luther's teaching on prayer is intertwined with his justification by faith and the Theology of the Cross.  Those who pray receive God's grace. Also considered are three specific recommendations that could inspire the pastoral imagination to reclaim the sacred language and practice of public prayer within Christ's gathered community.
