It compares these prayers with the congregant's perceptions of the Church of the Nazarene's teachings on the doctrine of entire sanctification.  The purpose of the project is to analyze and evaluate the congregant's expectations and reactions to the comparison.  It uses the descriptive survey method of inquiry to gather data from the control group of the Grandview church and from a companion test group randomly selected from four other Nazarene churches in the Kansas City area. This project contains a section on 'The Review of Related Literature' which covers the doctrine and practice of entire sanctification which outlines what constitutes transgression in the life of those who claim the experience of entire sanctification or Christian perfection. Aids such as books, audiotapes, weekly meetings and a guide were provided.  Research included an initial interview, an interim evaluation and a final evaluation (written and oral). The goal was that through this experience participants would confirm and strengthen their responses to the gospel. The author developed seven guidelines, which deal with grace, Jesus Christ, Holy Spirit, God, creation, neighbor, and Bible.  He used lay and clergy advisory groups, interviews with knowledgeable persons, perusal of major works in the field, and personal experience to develop and test these guidelines and practices based upon them. After defining prayer as a receptive mode of consciousness akin to meditation, prayer is further categorized into three levels: detachment prayer, dialogue prayer and discovery prayer. Each is related to both Christian tradition and the experiences of 'runner-prayer-ers'.  Subsequent chapters deal with such subjects as holistic health, auto-hypnosis, the runner's 'high,' journal writing and personality changes. A six-week Lenten series of sermons, workshops and model meditative prayers provide a broad approach to an entire congregation.  The project report contains scriptural and theological support. The Lord's Prayer was used as a model of relationship, type order and content to teach prayer.  A series of eight sermons on the Lord's Prayer was developed and delivered over a period of Sundays in January 1984. Weekly feedback sessions were used to determine the hearers' understanding of the Lord's Prayer and the resulting effect on their prayer life.
