It will show that public prayers based on preparation have a biblical foundation and can be very powerful in ministering to the listener.  Thus the prayer leader has a tremendous responsibility.  The necessity for sufficient preparation of public prayer as well as understanding the audience will be explained.  While benefits to the corporate membership can be derived through effective public prayers, the prayer leader, himself, will be a special beneficiary. The work includes a comprehensive word study on prayer and exegesis of significant prayer passages, including Jesus' prayer instructions in Matthew and Luke. The project provides analysis of the relationship between prayer, faith and the sovereignty of God and the goal of prayer. The project used preaching, small groups and prayer journals as project methods. Proposed strategies were recommended.  Personal interviews were employed.  The findings of the study showed that, in various degrees, all the participants of short-term missions continued to intercede for missions. The major presupposition is that prayer expresses a growing relationship with God.  During the months of August through December 2000, I interviewed thirty United Methodist pastors in the Greater Orlando area. Natural systems theory provides a framework for understanding the relationship system and centering prayer provides a tool for effecting change in that system.
