As people outwardly respond to the grace of God in a worship service, they meet God in a profound and transformational way, more deeply than they would if they had only responded inwardly. The project initiated an invitational ministry time during Sunday morning worship of Memorial United Methodist Church and Patton United Methodist Church in Franklin, North Carolina. The project develops a ministry team manual based on a Vineyard-style prayer method and trains members to participate in this invitational prayer ministry. During the four Sundays of Advent, 1996, 201 persons responded to this ministry. They report finding love, peace, comfort, joy, and encouragement in the ministry time experience. The workshop involved a diverse group of professionals from a wide range of disciplines and specialties on the campus of the Baptist Health System's Montclair Hospital. Intercessory prayer is necessary tool for wholistic health care because it connects people and enables them to 'touch' one another. Although prayers come in many different forms and often have surprising results, prayer is intended to be integrated with relationships. Questions were posed to discern if the prayer was meaningful and why (or why not) it was deemed so.  Responses to these questions are studied in light of relevant theological and pastoral care literature.  Entries from a journal written during a time of crisis are reviewed for ways in which prayer might have been voiced to meet spiritual needs. The project design included a five-week training seminar on the discipline of prayer in the devotional life. A sixth session about leading small groups was implemented among the deacon group. However, people within Western and Eastern traditions are unaware of or do not understand each other's ways of obtaining inner peace.  Two rich forms of prayer are largely unknown apart from their respective traditions are Ignatian prayer practices and Taoist prayer practices.  This project builds a bridge that connects these two streams so that Eastern and Western people can come to know and love one another more for the holistic well-being of humanity.  This project discusses Taoist and Ignatian spirituality and integrates them at the level of both theory and practice.  The study demonstrates how, while neither tradition is deficient in its own right, each can complement the other and enlarge the whole spiritual experience for Christians--to be whole, and to be complete in body, mind and spirit. A model for this integration of Ignatian prayer practices and Taoist meditation practices is 'Awareness of God in all things.' This practicum/project proposes that by exploring varied forms of prayer persons can deepen their relationships with God.  The practicum/project was conducted in two retreat settings.  The format of the retreats included discussion followed by opportunities for personal prayer.  Four prayer experiences were offered. This practicum/project has indicated that there can be a positive relationship between exploring new forms of prayer and enhancing one's relationship with God.
