It was assumed that it would. Materials were prepared and circulated to members of the congregation. Prior to distribution of the materials, and again afterwards, participants were asked to respond to a questionnaire in which they reported their practice of individual or household devotions. The difference in responses were then used to measure changes in attitude. A pretest and posttest were used to determine the knowledge and practice of different types of prayer, the knowledge and experience of the work of the Holy Spirit and the commitment to self-care.  Results show that students gained in their knowledge and understanding of formational prayer and made a better commitment to self-care. It takes a case study on an urban Chinese congregation in New York state with designed teaching material (six sessions) to be tested and evaluated as the method of research.  It concludes that Martin Luther's teaching on prayer is intertwined with his justification by faith and the Theology of the Cross.  Those who pray receive God's grace. The resulting 'prayer life' church-wide emphasis combined large group teachings with self-study materials and small group discussions and activities designed specifically to work within the cell-based church environment. The fruit of the project was ultimately to help people encounter the living God in Christ as trained intercessors came alongside them in prayer. This evaluative study in the descriptive mode used a researcher-designed instrument for training fifteen participants. Data was collected through semi-structured interviews, weekly feedback forms, and a congregational survey. The project examined both a practical approach to intercessory prayer for this interdenominational setting as well as the need to maintain self-identity, purpose, and meaning in life for the residents as they age. Factors that contribute to the absence of well-crafted, careful public prayers are examined through interviews with worship leaders representing a variety of Christian traditions. Also considered are three specific recommendations that could inspire the pastoral imagination to reclaim the sacred language and practice of public prayer within Christ's gathered community.
