The author conducted an extensive personal study of the subject utilizing both technical and devotional sources.  During the ten-week project duration, the author preached sermons and led a task force of ten persons in a weekly, intensive study of prayer.  The disciplined practice of prayer increased in the church. A review of denominational hymnals of National Baptist, African Methodist Episcopal and Church of God in Christ was included.  Finally, prayers from literature and the arts, mass meetings, music, and devotions/worship experiences were cited. The project design included a prayer workbook used by participants and instruments used by the author and clergy evaluators in making observations of participant responses. Chapter 1 described the goals, background, methodology, and meaning of prayer.  Chapter 2 provided the biblical-theological rationale. It involved eight weekly sessions of instruction followed by five weeks devoted to the sharing of prayer.  Chapter 4 described the research process.  The study group, control group, research design, hypothesis, variables, and evaluative components were discussed. Chapter 5 involved an evaluation of the program. The thesis was that people can be taught and trained how to pray and as a result experience growth in Christ.  The methodology focused first on the pastor: his study of prayer, practice of prayer, recruiting, teaching, and training prayer group leaders. He scripted prayer concerts and reflected on them.  He also gave inventories to the participants.
