The project examines the biblical, theological and historical understanding of both preaching and Baptist Confessions of Faith. Two doctrinal surveys were completed by the congregation. In between the surveys, a series of doctrinal sermons was preached. The results from the two surveys were compared in order to measure the effect of the sermon series upon the congregation's knowledge. The study evaluates the content and delivery of sermons of Jesus Christ, Charles Swindoll, an overseas-born pastor, and an American-born Chinese pastor.  The research includes comparing sermon content and style, and comparing sermon evaluation surveys of the two sermons by the overseas-born and American-born congregations. The preaching acts resulted in positive change in the actions and thought patterns of both the lay-leaders and congregants.  The hermeneutical and homiletical tools gave the voice and vision for understanding both the biblical and life text as interdependent allies.  The study sought particularly to understand how the use of the disciplines of theology, sociology and psychology can help to impact the lay-leader and congregant as change agents for
