The study is interdisciplinary in approach, drawing from scriptural tradition, critical evaluation of trained/untrained auditors along with insights from modern communication theories.  The basic premise of the project is that effective biblical pulpit communication can be achieved in the church.  The project reviews fifteen weeks of designated sermons from the book of Hebrews.  Talk-back sessions followed the preaching of the messages. It uses recent scholarship which claims that Israel came into existence in the Highlands around 1250 BCE as a federation of heterogenous groups of marginalized people.  The author reconstructs both the person and the book of Amos by relying on works by Gottwald, Hopkins and Coote.  This sociological approach provides the preacher with new insights into the Biblical tradition and illuminates numerous connections of consequence for today's society. Under the direction of a national committee, the sermons of the denomination's greatest preachers are transcribed from tape recordings and produced in a two-hundred page book, complete with homiletical suggestions and sermon outlines.
