Using qualitative research methods, this study explored principles and practices of proficient pastors who help congregants towards spiritual maturity through preaching.The literature review and analysis of interviews failed to identify preaching strategies that ensured congregants' maturity. This project proposes an additional step in the movement from text to praxis via the intermediary of the theological focus for all types of literature, but especially for narrative. To test the effectiveness of this methodology, a five-part preaching series from the book of Ruth was evaluated to determine the model's effectiveness. The basis for the research project was to both qualitatively and quantitatively discover if preaching has a measurable impact on a congregation's engagement in missions. The researcher conducted a presurvey and two postsurveys in conjunction with an eight week preaching series on 'God's Heart for the World' to identify the impact of preaching on the church's existing involvement in missions. From the research, ten common components of strategic sermons were identified and utilized in the formulation of a strategic sermon study guide and strategic sermon template. To conclude the project, the project director preached the series of strategic sermons employing the strategic sermon study guide and sermon template; thereby, representing an increase in his knowledge and skills in strategic preaching. The terms 'gospel,' 'kerugma,' and 'contextualization' will be defined and delineated. Examining Paul's sermons in Acts with those by the early Apostles (Acts 2:14-42; 3:12-26) a unified threefold rhetorical methods and message is discovered. This project, based on Reformed theology that 'union with Christ' strikes a balance between historia salutis and ordo salutis and helps Christians understand that their historia and ordo salutis are assured by their union with Christ, helps preachers preach both historia salutis and ordo salutis and Christians rely on Jesus united with them for their Christian life. In order to enhance Christ-centered preaching, which has been considered as sound biblical way of preaching in Reformed tradition, two concrete issues should be regarded. First, the imbalanced preaching between historia salutis (redemption accomplished, salvation per se, indicative) and ordo salutis (redemption applied, salvation sitz im leben, imperative), even in Christ-centered preaching, can be moralistic without historia salutis or be antinomian without ordo salutis. Second, many Christians are struggled with their Christian life. Sermon without the fact that Christ is in charge of the Christian life (ordo salutis) can drive many Christians to rely on their own decision, effort, moralistic approach, humanistic approach, systematic education, etc.Reformed theology teaches that 'union with Christ' is the answer. Because  'union with Christ' is a linchpin to hold together and strike a balance between historia salutis and ordo salutis, the 'union with Christ' concept can help Christians understand that their salvation per se (historia salutis) and their life as Christian (ordo salutis) are only confirmed and assured by their union with Christ.  Given, with the concept of 'union with Christ,' pastors in preaching can provide the two aspects of salvation in balance in order to give the congregation the right concept of salvation both accomplished and applied in Christ. In addition, the concept, explained and mentioned during preaching, can help congregation rely on Christ alone who provides everything they need to live out their Christian faith in their life contexts.
