This project will be based on the ministry skill enhancement model. The project director will begin by researching the field of apologetics and create an annotated bibliography from resources researched to aid in the design and delivery of apologetic sermons. He also will create a report identifying theological doctrines related to evil and suffering that will serve as essential components necessary to increase understanding of evil and suffering. The project director then will develop a series of apologetic sermons incorporating the essential components identified. He will base each sermon on apologetic principles and will incorporate a specific component deemed necessary for the increasing of congregational understanding of evil and suffering. The project director will preach the series of apologetic sermons at Eastwood Baptist Church. This project proposes an additional step in the movement from text to praxis via the intermediary of the theological focus for all types of literature, but especially for narrative. To test the effectiveness of this methodology, a five-part preaching series from the book of Ruth was evaluated to determine the model's effectiveness. The basis for the research project was to both qualitatively and quantitatively discover if preaching has a measurable impact on a congregation's engagement in missions. The researcher conducted a presurvey and two postsurveys in conjunction with an eight week preaching series on 'God's Heart for the World' to identify the impact of preaching on the church's existing involvement in missions. The Korean Presbyterian Church of Westchester's (KPCOW) EM and KM can stay together when they view themselves as a covenantal community founded by Christ based on its baptismal identity rather than its ethnic one. The author evaluated the influence of a sermon series on the way KPCOW understands its identity by analyzing two questionnaires both quantitatively and qualitatively. This project involved both research and ministry in following a skills-enhancement model. Research focused on the purpose, preparation, and delivery of strategic sermons. From the research, ten common components of strategic sermons were identified and utilized in the formulation of a strategic sermon study guide and strategic sermon template. To conclude the project, the project director preached the series of strategic sermons employing the strategic sermon study guide and sermon template; thereby, representing an increase in his knowledge and skills in strategic preaching. The terms 'gospel,' 'kerugma,' and 'contextualization' will be defined and delineated. Examining Paul's sermons in Acts with those by the early Apostles (Acts 2:14-42; 3:12-26) a unified threefold rhetorical methods and message is discovered.
